Hi

We have been trying for 2 years for a baby and just found out my partner has "slow" sperm, he went to dr without me so Im not sure how bad but have been referred to fertility clinic in edinburgh for tests and counselling etc. Ive had all my hormone levels etc and ovulation bloods done and everything from my side is fine, he brought home his results and to me (lame eye) looks quite bad as lot of head and body defects around 70% immobile! What does this mean!

My friend had ICSI and has now got 11 year old triplets and she tells me just to go for that but it is expensive. do you get such treatment on NHS or is it all private.

Im gutted, things are never simple!

So sorry also, i hope they can get it all working. I don't know much about it all my my hubbys dad had a low sperm count and he fathered 4 in the end.

:hugs: sorry for how u are feeling at the moment huni, Yeh u can get ICSI on NHS but ur exact intitlement depends on where u stay etc (postcode lottery) We are on Nhs waiting list for ICSI our try will come up some time nxt year (waiting list for our area 1 and a half to 2 years) So have went private in mean time.

xx

Sorry to hear that the test came back with bad news. How long did he obstain before the test? My doctor told us 3 days. You should take more than one test to confirm the results.

Hi hun

Sorry to hear your bad news. I'd get another SA done just in case it was just a bad batch so to speak. You can get ICSI on NHS but as Wannabmum said waiting times are a real pain and vary from region to region. Like Wannabmum, we are going for a private treatment as it's going to be next summer before our NHS treatment comes round

Sorry for the bad results I hope the fertility clinic has some answers for you

Sorry to hear about your news! :hugs:

I have 2 friends currently on fertility treatment in Glasgow (sorry, dont know where you are). There's roughly a 2 year waiting list in our area. One of my friends conceived with ivf and unfortunately mc (due to blodclot on placenta, total bad luck, could have happened to anyone she was told) She was 41 this year. She still has 6 embryos and is planning another go later in the year (2nd go is till free on NHS).

Another friend is 34 and has been trying for 3 years. They were originally diagnosed as oh having 'slow swimmers' (she was fine). She is now getting full fertility treatment after waiting 18 months.

Im going to the doc on 14th. Dont lose hope, it'll happen-just not perhaps during a drunken fumble after a night out, lol!

, Omi xxx

sorry hun, at least you are on the right path to getting help xx

Im sorry to hear your bad news :hugs:

I would wait and see what the fertility clinc say before jumping right in at the deep end and spending thousands of pounds. Your entitled to so much on the NHS first so id wait and see what they have to offer!!

Just wanted to wish you luck whatever you decide

Hey,

I just found out the same about my hubby but they test for three things, volume, amount and mobility. if it was only mobility that was low you should be ok.

Adam had all three low that with my lack of ovulation we're kinda screwed.

I'm sure if you're being referred you're being given the best chance!

Chin up!

Anna

Sorry to hear this and best wishes for the future.

So sorry to hear your news :hugs:

My DH also has very low motility, he also has low count, extremely poor morphology and highly damaged sperm. Our only hope is IVF/ICSI and we're currently TWW after cycle #1. I'm in Australia though, and after tests and all of that stuff (which seems to take forever!) you can get started pretty much straight away.

It is very scary to get dropped the IVF bombshell, I clearly remember when that happened to us. Its just something that you never think will happen to YOU.

There are a few of us doing IVF right now (some with ICSI too) and lots of girls coming up to their first cycle, so if you have any questions at all, ask away.

We're all here for you during this difficult time :hugs:

Update on my post is that we went to GP yesterday to find out how dire a sperm result we had and she said "borderline" not to worry and to keep trying as not impossible naturally. We should get our appt at fertility clinic in around October / November. Asked her how quickly things would happen then and she reckoned not too long, she thinks the next stage would be for me to have dye injected in so they can have a look at my fallopian tubes, she said that would take another 6-8 weeks probably! Things get soooo dragged out. She told us hugely expensive private, although hell of a lot quicker but that just isnt an option.

Dont know why the GPs think it helps by saying " majority of people conceive while waiting for their fertility clinic appointments" DOESNT HELP!

Anyway, just an update.

Thanks for updating us hun :hugs:

Yes...the waiting for appointments and tests is an absolute killer...time seems to stand still and it sucks.

Please continue to let us know how you get on xx

Hey Donna

We got bad results yesterday as well.

However, have done some research and bought quite a good book. My DH has to go for another test in a month although they would usually do another test quite soon after the first to see any improvement. Has your OH got another test soon?

Not sure if your OH is taking any supplements but my book said that men who take 1000mg of vit c had a 60% improvement. Taking Vit B12 is also very good for improving motility and morpholoy etc and so is Zinc. Also, cutting out caffeine and alcohol would be a real bonus as it takes 70-90 days for sperm to mature so if he starts now then he'll have some olympians really soon! :happydance:

Chin up hun xx
