max is teething (2nd tooth) so he's grumpy at the moment anyway, it was cutting through today so of course he was even more uncomfortable, and hey to top it off mummy took him to be stabbed with needles (3rd lot of jabs) he has been grouchy aallll day, but went to bed as normal at about 8:30 (dosed up with calpol) then at about 12:30 he woke up for his dummy so i went in to give it to him and he was burning up! and i dont just mean hot i mean boiling! its hot here anyway at the moment so we have fans going 24/7 which usually keeps him cool enough without clothes, so i knew something was wrong tonight, coz if anything it has been a little cooler today.

anyway i grabbed the forehead thermometer and took his temp, and the marker shot up to 40'c! but thats where the scale stopped...( im sure he was hotter than that, as normally the indicator fades up in colour and marks the temp but it was instant tonight, )so i gave him some more calpol (5 hours since last dose) i have a digital thermometer that i bought before he was born, and i ran around the house like a crazy woman searching for it, we have a room full of boxes that never got unpacked (we moved when i was pregnant) and i just tipped the contents of about 10 boxes all over the floor! i must have looked raving mad! lol after about 15 mins i gave up as i was wasting time, i went back to max and he was he was being really dopey and lethargic but making noises and still really really hot, so i picked him up and ran a luke warm bath and put him in, it wasnt cold cold, coz i know thats bad as it makes their temp drop too quickley, but it was very cool, his temp slowly went down, so i got him out and dried him off and lay him back in the cot, he rolled around for a bit playing with his teddies, i took his temp again and it was 37... then he fell asleep.. im not sure what to do now! obviously i will keep checking on him to check his temp but im too scared to go to bed incase it shoots up again.. what should i do? obviously this was caused by his jabs today, have any of you experienced high fevers after jabs? is it likely to go back up again now he has more calpol in his system? also i have turned up the fans? any advice would be greatly appreciated!

sorry to ramble and sorry about spelling etc!

hey my LO is teething atm too and she feels rather hot, she just woke up screaming actually and i had to strip her down as she was roasting! It must be normal i think...apart from being very cranky with her teeth shes not 'ill'. Iv just given her some calpol and shes just dropped back off to sleep. Sorry not got alot of advice but you're not alone! x

Sorry you've had to go through this - your poor little one!

I think you're doing the right things - just keep checking and if it goes back up again seek medical help.

I'm sure he'll be fine soon :hugs::hugs:

watch those forehead thermometers i was told to avoid them as you have to hold it on and tampers with the reading, if you can find a thermometer and do a anal temp reading its more accurate if it goes that high again i would cal someone straight away

glad you got temp down x

I had one of those scary nights the other night....my LO has been teething bad and she woke to be burning up. Very scary!!!!!! I did the same as you but it was awful...I wouldn't use a rectal thermometer tho....I am sure they are not reccommended.

My best friend lives in gib

:hugs: you poor thing! Nice cup of sugary tea. Xxx

My daughter had a very high temperture - almost 40 and they think she had a febrile convulsion (sp) so if I feel she is coming down with something, I have to alternate calpol and nurofen (sp) and this should prevent it happening by keeping their temp down :hugs: xxx

No they're not recommended.... digital thermometer in the armpit is most accurate and recommended... it's what Dr's practice too.
