Wow I feel quite lucky that all our antenatal/ postnatal care is paid for, regardless of whether you choose a hospital or independent midwife. Last time I got stuck with a hospital midwife who was really useless, luckily I've found a lovely, although a bit of a scatterbrained!) independent midwife who, when I told her I was thinking about a homebirth, said "homebirths are great, I'd recommend them to all woman."
