I'm new here but was hoping to get some advice or reassurance.

I've just found out I'm pregnant again but I've picked up a kidney infection. I've been pregnant twice before but have UTIs constantly and ended up having 3 miscarriages (2nd pregnancy was twins). We stopped for a year and i have had no trouble healthwise at all but now I have a kidney infection.

Has anybody had this experience before and if so was there anything your gp did to help?

Thanks

Not me - but would the gp not treat with anti-biotics?

hx

They treated every time with anti-biotics but it never cleared up. I was advised to give my body a break to recover which I did (a year) but I soon as I have conceived I've got another infection though this time it is a kidney infection.

A friend of mine who is a midwife knows of someone whose body thought the foetus was a foreign object so increased the white blood cells to fight it off. It was always put down as an infection and she had miscarried every time. This is what I'm worried about as I've never had infections before only when pregnant.

The midwife at EPU said it's normal to get them so early on and not to worry about it but I've had 3 miscarriages so very anxious and not wanting to get excited about the pregnancy.

I'm probably just beeing silly but we've had so many losses in our family in the last 2 years that I don't want another one.

No - you're not being silly - it does seem too much to be coincidence - and the idea of another mc must be so frightening :hugs:

When you had 3 mc have they not offered testing as this immune issue might have been picked up?

hx

No I've not been tested for anything and the GP this morning thinks that I was just unlucky last year. They are keeping a closer eye on me though and she said at the moment, the best thing to do is try and relax. She's also said to continue taking as much fluid as I can throughout the rest of the pregnancy as this will help to flush out toxins and hopefully not give them a chance to develop into an infection. If I have any problems, I'm to contact them immediately and get seen.

So it's just a matter now of waiting and see what happens. It's going to be a long 8 months but we're all in the same boat as far as that is concerned. I don't think anyone is relaxed until a baby is in their arms.

Thanks for the support

I know that when I was pregnant last year I was forever picking up anything going around and hand more than one UTI (god they hurt and drove me nuts!) and it's usually put down to your immune system being supressed so your body doesn't reject the baby so I suppose you could just be far more susceptible than usual to these things. However I do think it should have been looked into more and it's usually pretty automatic that you get investigated after three miscarriages though if you're under 35 (I think) they have to have been with the same partner (not sure why but guess there is a reason!)
Nothing any of us say is going to stop you worrying and it would be strange if you weren't at least a little concerned but it is all a waiting game. If the stress is really bad you need to go back to your MW or the docs and push for more testing or scans as that is the only way to help deal with your fears.
Good luck and hope all goes well

Since last year I've lost 2 stone in weight and have been increasing my fitness so that I could hopefully be healthier and stronger for this pregnancy. I'm hoping the hard work pays off and I'm trying to not think of it negatively. In saying that once I get near 8 weeks and 14 weeks I know the calmness will go as that was when I lost the twins.

Thanks girls for all the support xx
