Keeping it a secret?

For my first two, the names were chosen from the beginning and they are "normal" names... I felt very comfortable being open about the chosen names from the beginning and they were well-received.

This time though I'm completely out of ideas for a boy's name that fits (perfect and "normal" in English, French and Arabic). So I didn't feel comfortable talking about name options since I myself was not even that comfortable or "sold" on any of them. We seem to have narrowed it down to two and only a few people know what the choices are. I mentionned about 5 of the options to a few people and it became 2 from their reactions and comments - it really has an impact when people say negative things!!

With DD we were team green and we only got good reviews from Everly, which was surprising but at least two people hated Nicolette and said it sounded like Nicorette. Meh, I just wanted to face push those people because they can name their own babies and shut up. After hearing Everly people though James for a boy was just okay, even DH.

I told my BFF that we were thinking of Fiona when TTC #2 but she made a face and starting laughing because her nickname would be Fifi. I don't need her approval.

I've had my daughter's name picked out since I was 16 weeks and found out she was a girl. As soon as I announced it, there was an influx of "Ew." "It's boring". "Too popular". "It doesn't go well with Natalie". "I'm not a fan"...and the worst, my own mother calling at random hours to tease "Emelia Bedelia" over and over again. She's the type that will do that right to my daughter's face too.

My mother has been the most opinionated about the name and the most negative.

So I made an announcement that Emelia was never the name I was planning and it was a coverup for her real name, which is going to be Helga, because I want her to have a name close to my mother's name, which is Olga. I said I said it was Emelia because I was worried about opinions on Helga.

People bought it lmao.

It won't be Helga, but I don't know if it will be Emelia either. I'm crushing on Delilah too, so once she's born, I'll pick and announce. Until then, she's Helga.
