Kids in trolleys - some things I saw in Tesco!!

I hate seeing this too! Just use them for what they are for!! I hate hate seeing toddlers IN the trolley and not in the seat that they could sit in, it's so stupid.

my daughter goes in the trolley most of the time. She knows to stand nicely and hold on, and its doing her no harm. Why would it bother somebody else if MY child is standing in the trolley?

why do you hate it anyway?

It isn't that stupid. Sometimes it is the only thing stopping you throttling your toddler after trying to keep them in the seat and crashing to the ground or to prevent being kicked out due to the blood curdling screaming:)

I've been known to put Earl in the big bit of the trolley. Not since Eddy was born though as it's not ideal (and now he likes to sit next to him lol). He only just fits in the larger seat though. Thankfully he's nearly of the age where it wont matter soon as he'll be happy to walk the whole way - phew!

Those car trolleys were a lifesaver when I was PG though. I couldn't lift him in and out of the big bit of the trolley, and he didn't have to be pinned into a seat. He loves them though, and now Eddy's here it's difficult to use them (I don't like taking the car seat out of the car).

My toddler sometimes stands in the trolley too, he loves it and I avoid a tantrums.

Some of those things I don't agree with but the toddlers in the carts is fine as long as they are supervised properly i think

Xx

I'll be perfectly honest here and say I don't like children sitting or standing in trollies, no matter how easy it makes your trip. I put my food in there!who knows where their shoes have been?!

I always put my lo in a carrier while I shop for groceries, but when she is old enough, I'll have her sit in the cart.

As for the issue with children sitting in the carts and not liking it because your food goes in there.... I don't think carts get cleaned that often anyway. I wouldn't be concerned about a small child making it dirty. In fact, I bought a cover that fits in the shopping cart (and restaurant high chairs) so that she won't be touching the grimy cart lol.

River sits in the big part of the trolley sometimes. Sometimes because her sister is in a hair pulling mood and others because its fun to drive the plane/boat/spaceship.

Totally in agreement - I think it shows an utter lack of respect for anyone else who uses the trolley afterwards - that you couldn't give a stuff if their shopping (and yes, stuff's shrinkwrapped, but things like clothes that supermarkets sell and loose produce aren't always) gets covered in mud or dog crap or whatever else is on your child's shoes, or leaky nappy or whatever else.

But hey - long as YOUR life is made easier.

That's exactly what I think too. Shoes can have been in allsorts then into the trolley and yes the food is always covered in plastic etc but it's going straight in my fridge! I don't want mud and goodness knows what in my fridge thanks!

Do you disinfect the handle before you push the trolley? I'm sure there's lots of gems and what not over the handles inside trolleys are dirty anyway even if a child has been in there or not there kept outside

Oh please. Those trolleys are left outside, cats can pee on them and all sorts. Surely no one thinks they're clean?!

I'm pretty sure there was a news story nearly a year ago with a woman who had her car seat balanced on a trolley walking across the car park and it fell off and the baby died. So yeah I get pretty horrified when I see things like that too x

Hmm well trolleys are left out in the rain, cats/rats/pigeons have free access to them, packets of raw meat are put in them on a daily basis which could well be leaking, in the summer alot of them have bags of compost in, flowers, bleach.

Kids shoes are the least of your problems :winkwink:

 at people who think children's shoes are the WORST things on those carts ;) Seriously, God only knows whats on those things.

I hate it because I think it's dangerous tbh, especially after my nephew managed to fall out of one. Each to their own but it puts me on edge  I shop online so hoping to avoid the toddler trolley tantrums as much as I can :haha: x

It scares me when car seats are placed on top of the shopping cart (what US peoples call trolleys). It's actually unsafe, even though it clips onto it. It changes the center of gravity on the cart and it becomes top heavy, so it becomes easier for the cart to topple over.

There have been quite a few incidents in the US where babies have died while their car seats were clipped to the top because the carts topple over. So while it may seem safe because it clips in and seems secure, it really isn't.

I don't mind kids who are actually sitting in the cart as long as they're SITTING and not standing/jumping all over the place. That always scares me.

Haha, when your LO is a couple years older you might eat your words :haha:

Trust me....toddlers are an absolute nightmare when they want to be, and shopping for me is a complete headache. My little man will only be relatively calm if i let him stand in the trolley and let him put all the food in there for me. So helpful...:haha:

P.s, just been reading through the next few pages as only read first and realised im not the first to point out that its a lot easier doing it this way than having a tantrum on your hands, hehe.

I don't know about you, but I always put loose produce in the little plastic bags provided and wash before use anyway.

As for clothes - if you aren't in the habit of washing them before you wear them then I'd be much more worried about the potential 50 sweaty people that tried them on before you put them in your trolley.

Wow people used to warn me that baby club conversations got heated  lol!

The other day at tesco I saw a 2 or 3 year old in the blue baby seat. He looked rather silly with his feet slumped over the handlebars and his head dangling at a rather painful looking angle into the cart!
My dad smiled at the sight of him and the boys parents gave us a filthy stare lol!

to be honest my 19 month old stands IN the trolly..
so many times has she unbuckled herself & stood on the seat!! shes much safer IN it IMO!

about the dirty shoes in the trollys.. are you for real?!
seriously how much grime & dirt are on those trollys anyway?!

with the clothes thing.. thats why washing machines were invented!
