knitting question

I'm learning to knit and i have a question, does anyone know when a pattern says "knit 27 rows, cast/bind off in pattern". Does that mean knit 27 rows THEN do a cast off row, or cast off on the 27th row??

You need to knit 27 rows then cast off using the same pattern you have been using throughout.

So if you have been knitting a rib pattern KKPPKKPPKK........ Then when you are casting off you cast off in the same pattern.

Thanks I couldn't work out if I cast off the 27th row or knit another row in pattern to cast that off.
