Hi, so 8 months ago I gave birth to DD #1 by forceps, she was back to back and got stuck, so they prepped me for a section but ended up trying forceps first (in theatre) and it worked but they didnt think it would so I was all ready for a section.. if that makes sense...:S
My question is, WHAT exactly do they give you when you have a section.. I already had a "mobile" epidural.. which was topped up every 30-60 mins in delivery room, but then they gave me the full one in theatre, and it numbed my whole body when I thought it was only meant to numb your bottom half???, I was kinda panicky and wouldnt listen when they told me to calm down (obvs I was about to have my baby!) anyway, I was wondering what else they give to section patients, because I'm 100% sure they gave me more than just the epi.. They must have, because afterwards in the recovery room I was completely out of it.. I felt so sick but couldnt keep my eyes open like I'd been given some sort of sedative. Whenever I mentioned it to any of the midwives they just said "they gave u what u needed" :S but at the time I was completely focused on DD I didn't question any more. But after reading on here other peoples experiences of the epi, it doesnt sound like what I experienced at all.

has anyone else had any similar experiences or know what meds they give?
Thanks:hugs:

I'm afraid I can't help but the drugs they gave you must be on your file. I would ask for a copy of your birth notes or for them to review it with you. What a stupid answer, "they gave you what they needed to":/. While that may be true, and you may not have done anything differently under the circumstances, knowing what you had is important because if you didn't like the reaction you had it might help you make choices in the future. Maybe they gave you a sedative because they were worried about you getting panicy or it could be that something didn't agree with you. I know spinal blocks and epidurals can make your blood pressure drop quite drastically which would cause dizziness and maybe make you feel sick. I have read other birth stories of women who's whole bodies went numb with an epidural. Maybe it has to do with the positioning of the needle, or some people are just more sensitive.
