My little boy made an arrival this morning, my first baby. Had stronger braxton hicks yesterday that were caused by every little movement. Went to bed about 2230 and then woke up to an awful pain just gone 1am, it was right in my symphysis and felt like I was having really bad diarrohaea pains. The pain just wouldn't go away. Then did a few bowel movements sorry tmi and then the pain was coming and going rather than constant and Tummy was going hard with the pain. Had a shower, listened to music. The pains were straight away only 2 minutes apart if not nearer lasting a minute. I was coping fine though, just made a lot of howling which helped me and enjoyed the small breaks I had Inbetween. The pains were getting worse and I started to get a lot of pain in my lower back so I put a hot bottle on my back when the pains came. It took me a while to realise this is actually the start of labour haha. The pains then very quickly got a lot worse and so I woke my husband up for support I laid down on my side next to him and the next pain was nearly unbearable so once it subsided (I couldn't move when it was there) I went to stand up and thought I felt my waters trickle. So I put my hands down there but it was fresh red blood I was losing not waters. My husband jumps up and I tell him to ring the hospital and they tell me to come straight in. So quickly get dressed dash to car and drive to hospital. Pains continue to be couple of minutes apart and I'm gutted that I have to go in so so after contractions started- it's been about 1 and a half hours. Get to the hospital just before three in the morning and midwife examines me down below to see what's happening, still bleeding like a period at this point. Couldn't believe it when she tells me I'm 8cm dilated!!!! She offers me pain relief but for some reason I don't want it and I feel like I'm coping fine. I breath through the contractions and make some wails and my husband rubs my back
the doctor comes in about an hour and a bit later as baby's heart beat drops for couple of minutes. She asks to examine me and break my waters. I'm still 8cm, waters broken. Then the pain and panic really hit. My husband is fantastic at supporting me at this point. I hit transition very quickly and they offer me gas and air again, I say I'll try. Take anout 4 puffs and decide i hate it as its just like warm air and I'd rather breath in the cooler air in the room haha. The urge to push all of a sudden hits me and I'm involuntarily pushing. Then his heart rate just drops and it's not recovering so the emergency button is pulled. Everyone runs in and forceps is decided upon but no time for anything apart from some local anaesthetic on my bits. This was the worst part, but luckily was over very quickly. Didn't hurt to have forceps applied but when she pulled the pain was awful and i told her I couldn't do it, my husband said you can you can and I came to the realisation i was just going to have to push. So I pushed like mad and the relief when his head out was amazing and then the rest of him was born and he was passed straight up to me
from first pain to my little boy being here it was just under four hours
it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be and I'm so glad it was over quickly even if it did make it lot more intense. Now enjoying my beautiful boy on the ward who is a natural and keen breastfeeder, so in love. Is there anyone that has any questions or concerns about labour/birth?
