last week i had cd21 bloods done to check to see if i had pcos and saw my doctor yesterday (for something unrelated) so asked her if she could tell me the results (rather then ask the receptionist).

she scanned over them and said they were normal and that i have lots of follicles. after coming home i kicked myself for not asking the exact levels so went in today and asked the receptionist.

she couldnt find the progesterone result (which is what the test for right?!) but did find results for fsh and oestradiol. i thought they tested for these on cd3?

anyways the results for these were 5.8 for fsh and 430.0 for the oestradiol.

i've tried researching what these levels mean in terms of being 7dpo when they were done but all i can find is levels for when the tests have been done on cd3.

help!!!!!! confused!!! x

Those levels are fine for fsh and estrodial, prog tests will not really confirm PCOS but multiple follicles is PCO

PCO? What different between PCO and PCOS??
I have follicles on my ovaries as well confirmed by ultrasound and then i had cd2 tests and she said my level for pcos was just over being 6.4 i think male hormone and the boarderline was 6.3..(something like that) I was just over and she said i had pcos..
xx

PCO is when you just have follicles, PCOS is when you have other symtoms to such as excessive hair growth, bloating abdominal pain etc. At least this is what I have been told by various fertility specialists

My FS said same as Krissi's i.e. I've got PCO (which was found on internal ultrasound) but I don't appear to have the syndrome that goes with it (my periods are regular, don't have excessive hair...except the odd chin hair )

so those levels are ok even though they weren't done on cd3 but on cd21? thats the bit i'm confused about! they cant be accurate if done on the wrong cd.

i have the symptoms of pcos irregular cycles (before i had my girls could go 2-3 months before my next af) after them they are usually anywhere between 29-45 days. i also suffer from acne. its always been at the back of mind that i may have it but it hasnt bothered me til i lost jessica and are ttc again long cycles are really hard to get through. x

They basically just test everything on CD21 just so they can do their comparisons if and when they do CD3 tests.

thanks sue! how come she couldnt find the progesterone on my results then? thats what i am confused about! as thats what they mainly test for on cd21 the progesterone!

have been reffered to the pre-pregnancy unit so hopefully they will do it again for me.

was wondering is mid-cycle spotting another symptom of pcos and also getting positive opks on a certain cd and then getting them again a week or so later? its happened to me this month and its made me think as i have had it happen in previous months too!

wish i knew what was going on with my body!! x

It can take 2 weeks for cd21 bloods to come back. But the rest tend to be quicker, how long since they took the bloods?

Hi babytots

Yes, from my personal experience and what i have read opks are not always accurate if you have PCOS. In some the hormone is to high all the time or some of the time so it picks up a reading and also you can get positive opks when you have pcos as your body gets ready to release an egg but then doesnt giving you a false positive.

I first found this out when i brought a clearblue fertility monitor which also doesnt work if you have pcos.

Thanks
Sarah

thanks crypto it was nearly 3 weeks ago it was done.i would have thought the nurse would of told me when to expect the progesterone to be back if it took that long she just told me to phone on the tuesday (i had them done in a friday) for the results.

sarah- i used one when ttc my youngest. it would give me peaks when i wasnt ovulating. in the 4 cycles i used it i had one anovulatory cycle and a cycle where i got peaks and didnt ov and ovulated 2 weeks later. infact that cycle was when i concieved my daughter. i saw ewcm thinking i was on my 2ww but bd just incase thank god i did otherwise we would never have gotten pg.

oh and my longest cycle i have recorded on fertility friend was 105 days! which was roughly about the same length pre-pregnancy with my eldest.

i see my consultant tomorow so shall see what she says.

oh and before i go when i ovulated the 2nd time this month i got a bfp too whats all that about?! the lines got fainter and 5 days after my bfp it had gone negative. my body is one strange body lol. af is due tomorow so shall see whether she turns up or not! x

Hi

followed you from the other section ;). My cycles were 29-45 days (but sometimes AF would just go awol for up to four months with no reason) right up until I had my youngest; since I had him over two years ago now my cycles have been 60 days+ . I do find a lot of NHS nurses and GPs have no clue as how to interpret the results from CD3 and CD21 tests which isn't exactly confidence inspiring, my locum GP (who is much much better with these things than the usual GP) ordered the CD3 tests for me before I got pregnant and miscarried recently but she didn't seem exactly sure if they were meant to be CD3 tests or when to take them she said just go when you get your period back; I spent months changing my appointment again and again just to get it when I was on my period and then found I was pregnant lol not sure if I can reactive the appointment because on the choose and book system its never properly cancelled but will have to check. There is this attitude on the NHS (and to be fair private healthcare in the UK as well) amongst some doctors that its impossible to have PCOS and to have ever successfully had children naturally; though they'll just about begrudgingly accept you may have PCO but without the 'S', when this is just not correct I know plenty of ladies with full-blown PCOS, diagnosed with symptoms, bloods and a scan who have either previously had children naturally or gone on to at a later stage, sometimes up to four or more kids. Its just harder thats all and there is more of a risk of miscarriage at certain early stages (though the gyn that dealt with me during my miscarriage was in denial of that fact too). I'm on another forum and a lady who had no period for THREE YEARS got pregnant completely naturally without even knowing she was OV, and last time I knew she was pretty advanced in her pregnancy and doing great.
