Ladies who have birthed at a midwife led unit

I was wondering your experiences of a midwife led unit?

I did Hun, loved every second, very small centre only two labour rooms, it was my first labour x

We have a new one at our hospital with four rooms and 3 birthing pools. I delivered on labour ward with my first but didn't use anything for pain do thought midwife led might be nice and calm.

Yes Hun it was very quiet , I wanted the pool but cudnt get in it in the end my local hospital didn't have a birthing pool ! wats that about! X

I delivered my back to back LO in 7 1/2 hours with 9 minutes pushing in a midwife led unit, I only had a slight graze and was home the same night - so I'd say a very good experience!

A lot of units will let you do a tour before hand, but I would recommend it to anyone

i would recomend it although I didnt actually give birth in the mlu. i started there got moved to the labour ward to be checked as they had got busy and were going to get my pool room ready for me but due to my quick labour i never made it back! I did get to go back after i had my baby to recover and it was lovely. No restrictons on visitors, lovely private room, if you stay over night your partner can stay with you. we wanted to go home asap and they done all they could to discharge us quickly. I would not think twice abut going there if we have another!

This all sounds very positive to me. I have my 28 week midwife app soon so I will ask her about it then. I'm also interested in a water birth so I guess we will see!

I did and I would go there again if at all possible! I 'enjoyed' the birth as much as you can expect to and I had a lovely water birth experience. I was the only person birthing there that night, out of 5 rooms, so I had plenty of midwives at my beck and call

Done it twice now. Lovely midwives I've found - a lot more relaxed than in delivery suite as they tend to be less worried about you lol. 2nd time I was in MLU care but ran out of rooms so ended up in delivery suite under MLU so was slightly different. Wouldn't say it was any less of an experience. I've got to go to Delivery suite this time due to Eddy's size last time, and tbh I am a little sad, but I don't think it's a major difference. The rooms in an MLU are just a bit less medical (kidney beds etc).

Wonderful.
I was the only one there for most of my stay. Calm and relaxing as labours go. They knew their stuff and felt totally looked after, even as LO was difficult to budge and took her time. Everything was just brilliant, until my placenta decided to remain put, lol (another story).
I am booked to go back with this one too. I so hope I can!!

Wow OK I need to read things more clearly. I gave birth at N&N with Eddy and was under the care of the MLU although actually was physically in the delivery suite. The midwives were amazing and lovely and I;ll be jealous if you get to go and I don't lol (joking lol)

I had a wonderful birth experience at an MLU. I felt so relaxed, and the unit itself was lovely- like a private hospital!

Yep - I've had the jab to help with blood loss and third stage delivery both times.

Had my first in an mlu. Was relaxing and like being in a hotel. The midwives were with me through out as Iwas the only one labouring that night and I stayed longer for bf help

I've had both my children at a midwife led birthing unit, and plan to deliver this baby at the same midwife centre. Personally I loved it, I hate hospitals anyway and the midwife centre was so much more relaxed and 'homely', I was we'll looked after, it wasn't as busy as a hospital would have been. My midwife centre has a couple of rooms with double beds where if you need to stay over for a night, your partner can stay too. I found this so good, as one of my dreads was being in a hospital on my own after delivering. Can't recommend them enough oh but I think most, if not all, midwife led units don't offer epidurals, at least mine doesn't, but I never wanted one myself so this wasn't an issue.
