The last time I dyed my hair was about a month before falling pregnant with Zoe. I wanted to wait for sure through first trimester & possibly hold off all the way through my pregnancy. My roots have blended AMAZINGLY well, but I miss having more color in my hair. I'm naturally dirty blonde, which turns dark blonde with highlights during the summer, but during the fall and winter it stays this greyish color. I dyed it red, which faded mainly since before getting pregnant. I'm wanting to dye it again, but then again I'm not sure. I'm still slightly paranoid, but I'd be dying it darker, so no bleach/peroxide. I'd also find a dye without ammonia. I was wondering what your experience was like though? Especially those who dyed their own hair. I've heard horror stories about dying hair while pregnant & don't want it to screw up!! Did the dye do what you wanted it to do?

i dyed my hair so much when preg with my bub, i was red & i home bleached twice and then spent 6 hours in the hair dressers getting it blonde. i didnt know i was pregnant but it came out really well and my LO is perfect :flower: just my experience,. MW said it was fine though and that people were too paranoid - just dye in a well ventilated area

it has less chemicals and fumes than household cleaners and im in beauty school so ya know

what's even safer then an ammonia free one is a totally natural one from a health food store!

People get waaaaaaay too paranoid about this. It's fine honestly, there's not enough evidence to suggest that dying your hair can be harmful from the chemicals getting into your body as they don't go anywhere near as deep enough as they'd need to be. Or so ive read anyway. I never dye my hair anymore since bleaching it to death in the past but if I did I'd carry on doing it whilst pregnant :flower:

trust me its fine im in beauty school and we are taught about this its safe, as long as your in a well ventilated area more assurance i just dyed my hair it fine trust me

I work in a hair salon so I found it hard to abstain but did during my first trimester - I'm naturally a mousy brown but had been highlighting my hair for awhile to make it a dirty blonde. At about 15 weeks I got them to do a chocolate brown to avoid the roots which were terrible. They used L'Oreal INOA which is ammonia free and supposedly scent free but I could still smell it a little, probably due to hormones. It didn't go as dark as it should have but I was warned before that our hormones cause a different chemical reaction than normal so it was expected. I still ended up with a nice colour. Normally with a straight dye job my hair could go 6 weeks with no noticable roots but not anymore, my hair grows like twice as fast! I don't think there will be any negative effect from using it though

Thank you ladies. I'm more paranoid about my hair turning some odd color, have your dye jobs turned out the right color?

I dye my hair all the time. All you need to do is use a dye you have used before.
No peroxide. And do it in a well ventillated room.
Do a patch test if youre that worried.
There's always a little chance it may not go the exact colour.. Going brown is the riskiest as it can go a green tinge..

People seriously get too paranoid about things like this..
Yes in extreme cases people have had reactions or even died.. But more people have died in car crashes yet people get in cars everyday regardless..

They only advise you not to use bleach on your hair mainly because your roots are attached to your blood stream, ive been hairdressing for a few years now and even though i knew this i wanted to be safe so i didnt use it through out 1st tri, but since then ive bleached my hair 3 or 4 times died it a darker blonde, died it brown, and im currently stuck on ginger.. its completely fine to use hair dye through out your pregnancy, its more just to cover there backs, but if your worried about somethin going wrong, maybe do a skin test?

It's fine. As long as you're in a well ventilated area it won't harm your LO. From personal experience though, being pregnant affects the way your hair takes the color. I dyed mine red from blonde. Usually when I do that, it comes out AMAZINGLY red. I used the same hair dye, and this time it came out grey/brown with a tint of red lol.

Just use the hair dye you have used before and you should be ok! I used dark brown Ive used before and usually it comes out almost black but now during pregnancy it's been lighter and come out much nicer brown so it was all good as it was better than usually :D

i stripped and dyed my hair back to its natural colour when i was around 12 weeks...the strip went abit funny but i was stripping 3 layers of purple dye off it went an orange colour (i have naturally red hair) then put a light brown dye over it and it came out great had no problems with it :flower: only thing was the smell made me sick in the night :(

It's completely safe for your little bumpkin, so no worries there. You'll just have to upkeep on it a lot, pregnancy takes a lot out of your hair (mine at least, "Boys give you Beauty" my arse!) and makes it grow a lot faster, so you gotta keep it up. And my colors all came out fine (I bleached my entire head in the first trimester, and dyed it darker three times now) it all just depends on the person. I would do a patch test just to make sure though ;) Good luck!!

I dyed my hair right after first trimester and my babay is doing great!
