What's your routine for making up bottles?

I know you cant make up Combiotic the usual way you make up other formula milks (with 70c water) and that it needs to be made with cooler than usual water due to the live probiotic cultures it contains.

Do you boil the kettle, fill bottles, leave on the side and add powder when necissary (so the water is room temp)? I know you are not supposed to do this with other formulas, but it does seem that it would be the most convenient way for making up the Combiotic.

I use Hipp but still have the old formula atm ..
Wasnt aware the new was any different?!

Yes the new Hipp Combiotic powder has to be made with cooler water (40-50c) as it contains live friendly bacteria cultures. So I was just wondering if you were making it will much cooler water anyway would it be ok to just fill sterilised bottles with cooled boiled water, leave on the side, then add powder when baby wanted a feed. xxx

Oh ok i wasn't aware of this. Many of my friends do this with formula anyway (add to cool boiled water) on the advise of the HV !! So im sure it would be fine.
When you get a reply back from them could you let me know on this thread please? As i only have half a packet left so i will be buying the new stuff soon. (As long as my daughter results come back ok)
It will be so much easier adding to room temp water anyway!xx

Yup I will let you know asap. I emailed them last night so hopefully should get a reply tomorrow or tuesday :)

I've settled on the following method:

Wash & sterilise all bottles.
Boil kettle, fill all bottles half full & then cool & put in the fridge.
When a feed is needed I boil the kettle, top up the water and add the powder.

This way it's warm but not too hot for the new formula, my LO isn't keen on having his milk cold/room temp anyway

I guess your way would be just as good and you could maybe warm the bottles if you wanted slightly afterwards?

this might sound stupid but if the powder is still in the old packaging (green box ) is it the old formula still?

i used that idea last night. was fab!!

Yey! Lol :)

No, green packaging is still the old stuff. You'll know the new one for sure as it has completely new boxes & is labelled 'Combiotic' x

I do what you said. Fill the bottles with boilng water then add powder when needed :) x

Heya. The Hipp lady got back to me today and said that its fine to prepare with water cooler than 40-50c but the powder may not mix as well.

So as long as you have made sure you mix well room temp water is ok to use :)

brilliant thanks :)) you seem quite knowledgeable... Izzy is 6 weeks tomorrow and 8lb14 she is drinking between 6 and 8 ozs each feed but doesn't really have a set time between each feed. does this seem likealot or could it just be a growth spurt? x x

I'm a bit confused (not hard with this sleep deprivation!) - I thought the reason formula should be made with hot water was to kill any bacteria in the powder. Will room temp water do this?x

6-8 ounces per feed at 6 weeks is probably more than the "norm" but if she is keeping it down and is content then she is only taking what she needs. There is a growth spurt at 6 weeks so you may find she will start taking less again once the growth spurt passes xx

Yes this is the usual rule of thumb but Hipp now contains live friendly bacteria that is destroyed at a temp of more than 50c.

As long as the formula is drunk straight away the risk of baby getting ill is very low. Plus its good to rembember that the rest of Europe the US and Australia all make up their formula with room temp/warm water. The UK is one of the only countries to follow the WHO's strict 70c rule. xx

I have a container filled with cooled Boiled water and Mix it in the bottle with freshly boiled water. Its quick and Perfect temp. Xx

when i do that it always ends up boiling hot. im currently filling all bottles in the morning with coiled water then when needed warming in Mic then adding formula so they are a nice temperature but not room temp. i give cartons at night x
