Morning All

At my last consultant visit I was told that if the 3 months of Clomid dont work then they will do a laproscopy.

The thing is i'm not sure why? My last consultant didn't think it was necessary. What will they be able to see that they don't already know? I have already had all the dye test and scans to show my follicles and lining etc. Just curious what they look for with the laproscopy? If it may help identify the problem then great but I don't want to have unnecessary proceedures just because the consultant is going through the motions, so any opinions would be greatly received!

Hi, I'm having a lap and dye and hysteroscopy to remove a polyp on 4th Jan, my reason for this is they suspect I have endometriosis which can only be diagnosed through a laparoscopy and can't been seen on scans, I'm glad I'm having this as will have all the answers in one go, I've had 2 progesterone tests, 2 scans and day 3 bloods but will get results of 3 day bloods after lap on follow up appointment,my periods are really heavy irregular and painful and they also saw a cyst on the last scan which can also be a sign of endo, I think they are probably doing it to rule anything further out before starting anymore treatment or meds for you
Good luck! X

Thanks for telling me your story Star and good luck with your op x

I don't have any "symptoms", I have "normal" (what's that right!!) regular periods, text book day 14 ov and 27/28 day cycles, all hormones are normal. Like you say I'm sure it's just the next test but it feels a little heavy handed. I didn't realise that was the only way to tell if you have endo though so that helps

Xx

Hi thank you for the luck, i think im going to need it!
My sister was the same as you and they went straight for a lap with her too but without doing hsg or anything first. I think this was coz she had been trying for a while but had no symptoms of anything, they did find some scarring though which they removed and said was probably due to a previous infection
Have you heard anymore? xx

Did your sister have any luck in conceiving once she had the scarring removed?

I won't hear any more until I see my consultant in March/April. But I'll be going for bloods and scans for my next two rounds of clomid so maybe I won't need the lap!! I'm in my tww after my first round and two ripe follicles but not feeling v hopeful this month.

Do you have much recovery time after your op? X

Ooh that sounds good, hopefully you won't need it! She didn't have any luck, tried for about another ten monhs but then split from her partner :(
They have said to have a week off work but from what I've heard could feel much better after a few days. I had a horrible dream last night I missed my appoint coz was late so they wouldn't do it and I was crying and begging them to do it still, I think I really need it over and done with just so I know whats going on!
What day in your 2ww are you on? Xx

Where do I start? I'm new to the site and this my first post..
Excuse my spelling if i happen to spell anything incorrect. Ive been with my boyfriend for four years now and we are planning on getting engaged and having a baby.Im 22 years old,at the moment and would like to have kids young due to unknown fertility issues and health reasons.Ive done my yearly pap twice this year (June and October)I had my first ultra sound on November 1rst 2012 following the sonohysterogram on Dec 19 2012. The sonohysterogram was painful for me ....I took the antibiotics prescribed and 1 ibuprofen... when the saline was inserted was the worst part for me.. I could barely take it,and now the doctors said my uterus and everything else looks healthy, they think my tubes are blocked because they didn't see the liquid go through them. And i heard from a nurse hes one of the best doctors,he says that the other doctor is gonna call me to set up a appointment with the results and options and a he mentioned a Hysteroscopy. I was wondering if they can do a tubal cannulation? And does a Hysterosopy hurt? Is a Laproscopy more painful then all the other options ?

Hi Ladies

I had a laparoscopy 20 years ago due to extreme periods which came along with extreme pain! I was only in hospital for one night and recovered very quickly. I know you may feel it slightly unnecessary Dazed but its definitely worth having in order to ensure nothing major is going on inside. It's a simple procedure and hopefully if you need it it can give you slight peace of mind.

Good luck

Thank u weebubba, I'm looking forward to finding out whats going on with me!
Hi pats, I havent had one but as far as I know, and have heard on here, a hystercopy doesn't hurt, its where they insert a small camera internally and is how they do things like remove polyps, a laparoscopy is different as you have a general anaesthetic so they can have a proper look inside and check for things like endometriosis
I'm having a laparoscopy, hystercopy and the hsg dye check all in one next Fri so I'll be asleep for all of it thankfully,I'll be going home the same day, the only other tests I've had are blood tests and a scan but because of my painful irregular periods and a cyst on my ovary they suspect endometriosis,I've also got a polyp that they are going to remove
Good luck with everything xx

Thanks Weebubba, I think I just needed some reassurance from you ladies that have the experience that it is the right thing to do

Welcome Pats and good luck with your journey, I don't have experience of the things you mention but many of the other ladies on this forum will and there is always someone willing to give you experienced or reassuring words

Star, I'm on 12dpo today but I think the witch is on her way. I feel for you with your dreams, even when we try not to think about things too much our unconcious has a way of making us think about it anyway! Please let me know how it goes on Friday, I will be thinking of you xx

Thank u dazed, I'm last on the list that day too so going to have to wait ages to have a drink because of fasting!
Always appreciate the support on here though, other people's words are always encouraging, ill definitely let u know how I getting on,
I really hope the witch isn't going to show up for you, do u plan on testing or are u a non tester like me?
Xx

I wish I was a non-tester! How do you manage that? Some months I test every day! I've even been known to pee on opks when I don't have any Internet cheapies! :) that said I'm regular so af will show New Year's Day and I won't test before then.

Last in the day sucks, all that waiting and no good old cup of tea to calm the nerves :) xx

How are you getting on Star? Recovering well I hope x

Hi, I've recovered well thank u,had the lap Friday and there are no problems at all, ovaries and tubes look and are open they didn't even remove the polyp as said it was too small! So it's good news but doesnt explain why not conceiving
I was quite ill after the op, bp was very low and couldn't stop being sick, even after 1 sip of water which I desperately needed! They nearly kept me in but in the end I got out about 7pm, 8 hrs after the op instead of 2!
The good thing is though there wasn't any pain, even when I was being sick it didn't hurt my stomach but they had given me paracetamol, double dose of strong ibuprofen,a volterol suppositry and morphine! Explains the sickness lol
At home I just stuck to paracetamol until the nxt night and took 2 tramadol they'd given me to take home, since then I havent had to take anything, there are some gas pains from where they fill u up with carbon dioxide so theres quite a bit of burping and random gas pains for a couple of days, I had some in my chest and shoulders but overall it isn't bad and I'm relieved now I know theres nothing wrong but just a bit frustrated as to why can't get bfp, I'm aassuming its due to my long cycles and not always ovulating or ovulating very well
My next appointment is 25 th Jan so I'll know more then

How are things with you on the Clomid, any side effects? Xx

Hi girls
Just wanted to post in here after reading your posts about my success story after my lap. After 2 years if ttc my doctor finally referred me to my hospital for my first app with my consultant, I had a hsg test in feb which shows both my tubes were blocked, I was devastated and the thought of an operation filled me with horror. I had my lap in march, it was painful after but after 10 days I was more less back to normal, they had partially unblocked one tube and removed lots of ashesions from my overies and bowel.after a few weeks we started ttc again and by may I got my bfp! Sadly I mc at 5 weeks. Months passed and I went back to see my consultant in oct, she recommended I have another lap but would have to wait till jan for it, I went home gutted and decided if I didn't get pregnant that month I was having a break till jan as I was truly sick of the rollercoaster I'd been on, little did I know I was already pregnant!! So here we are in january and I'm now 14 weeks pregnant and everything us going as it should be. I hope this gives anyone who was / is sceptical about a lap a bit of hope as I truly believe I would never of got 2 bfp within 6 months if I hadn't of had mine x x

Thank you for sharing your story faith, I appreciate it so much to hear positive stories, as I'm very nervous of anything invasive but especially general anaesthetic scares me! And huge congrats on your bfp.

Good to hear from you star, have been thinking of you. You made me laugh with the random burps - its all so sexy isnt it!! I'm so pleased for you that nothing is wrong, I know exactly what you mean about being frustrated about why your not getting a bfp. My doctor says I have unexplained fertility like its a good thing and people keep saying "we'll, it will happen soon, nothing's wrong" I want to scream that clearly something is wrong!!!!!! :-) how long have you been trying for?

The clomid is really good this cycle, no side effects at all and my 10dpo scan today showed a 16mm and a 23mm follicle with 10mm lining (I don't really know what all that means but they said it was good and I'd ovulate in the next few days)....so I'm off together b/ding hehe :-)

X

wow faith, sorry for your loss but pleased you now have your bfp! thank you for giving us hope
I hopen I didnt make you feel worse dazed about the anaesthetic! I was only like that as thats just how it affects me, last time I had it I was sick too, have you had general anaesthetic before? everyone else in the day surgery unit was fine and were walking out as well as they walked in and all enjoyed their tea and toast afterwards! you will be fine if you have one, I actually ended up looking forward to mine in the end!

Thats good news about the follicles, im not sure what all the numbers mean either but it sounds good! when are you testing?
I find it easy not to test as cant stand seeing BFN's and Ive never actually believed I would get my bfp until start testing and treatment, altogether my DH and I havne tused contraception for over 8 years! at first I never thought anything about not getting bfp, in the back of my mind I always thought I wouldnt get pregenant, I dont know how, i just knew, after about 6 years of burying my head in the sand I thought we better go to GP! I know it sounds ridiculous but it was only then we really wanted to TTC after buying our house and going on holidays and always somehow knew it wouldnt happen naturally for us, I think I maybe wish i'd done it sooner but its too late now and now I know I havent got endo or PCOS and tubes are clear I feel a bit more hopeful that its just my ovulation needs a nudge in the right direction with some meds, like my FS said, if im not ovulating - or very rarely - theres little opportunity to conceive as most couples probably have 12 chances a year we probably only have 4-6 chances a year with my long cycles

sorry to go on! I do ramble sometimes, really hope this is it for you this month!
xx

Oh no, you didn't make it worse, I just have this irrational fear of being put under and never waking up, I have only ever had one general as a kid and it went without a hitch but I still remember the fear!!!

Wow, your story sounds like mine in so many ways, me and OH have been together nearly ten years, we also wanted the house and stability before babies and then it got to the point a couple of years back where we just realised that we had the lifestyle where kids would be nice, we also hadn't used contraception for a number of years but thought we were being careful with the withdrawal method - now I wonder if it was less being careful, more infertility.

I too have always had it in the back of my mind that I would have problems conceiving, I wasn't at all surprised when it didn't happen and got really frustrated when people thought I was being silly for worrying - well, at least I can say I told you so! Lol!

If you don't mind me asking how old are you? I'm 31, I did have a pregnancy that ended in miscarriage when I was 18 but in a strange way gives me hope that it can happen for me.

AF is due on 28th, I'll try not to test till then but the clomid has made me get my hopes up again so if i get some internet cheapies it could be 10 days after ovulation daily testing starting the 24th (I still haven't decided what's best for me, I think maybe early testing helps me to not get my hopes up)

Sorry for the long essay!!
Xxx
