I have always preferred "proper" name spellings - but I quite like Lora. Feels like a more traditional name with a modern twist...

What do you think?

I know so many people named Laura. I think Lora is a neat way to spell it, but I am partial to Lara.

I have a friend named Lara - this would be my preferred spelling. It's pronounced slightly different too (more "lar-a" rather than "lor-a") which I find prettier.

Yeah that's why I like Lara sounds prettier.

I do really like Lara!

Do you think the world is over the whole "tomb raider" link?? That's all I can think of when I say Lara!! It is pretty though & I know I would forget the link if I were using it everyday for my child. But would everyone else??

Chiming in on the "Lara" talk, It is my name and I really like it. I haven't met many other Lara's either.
The "Lara Croft" thing has only ever come up a couple of times in my life lol.
The only thing I can complain about is when people accidentally call me Laura.

In terms of the Laura/Lora name... I really like the look of Lora actually, but I feel as though she would be constantly correcting how it is spelt, so maybe it's best to go with the traditional spelling.

My first name is a very common/popular name with a unique spelling and I honestly have always found it to be incredibly annoying. No one has ever spelled my name correctly on the first try (and half of them don't spell it correctly even after I tell them), I'm constantly having to correct the spelling on accounts I open, constantly having to tell people how to pronounce my name, etc. It just gets really old. I think it's easier if you have a unique name that people can't spell because they don't even try and they're listening more closely when you tell them how. And so, I am not a fan of unique spellings for common names AT ALL! :haha:

My middle name is Laira (pronounced Lara... again with the unique spelling... thanks mom) and I always really liked it growing up. :)

I accidently call my BFF from Highschool "Lara" all the time. Her name is Laura, but I like "Lara so much it just slips out. LOL.

As far as I know Tomb Raider seems to be dying down. (Though I am still a huge fan) I don't see it as often anymore, not even in the gaming community. And I would totally name my baby Lara, because it is so pretty, and not very common.

I like Laura and Lara (my middle name is Laura and it is simple and pretty I reckon). Not sure about Lora.

I wouldn't worry about Lara Croft at all :).

I don't think so! But maybe since my friend is Lara - I don't associate the name with a movie character. Besides - as far as name associations go... Angelina Jolie is a GREAT one!! :winkwink:
