Does anyone have any experience of using lavender oil or other essential oils in bath water or even in a diffuser for nighttime?

I give my 8 week old a warm bath before her last bottle and she really seems to like it. Just thinking about adding a drop of lavender oil to the water to see if it helps her settle more? I don't want to irritate her skin though, and I'm not sure if it might do that at such a young age..?
Any advice?

My DS is 7 months, I used to use the Johnson's bedtime bath which is lavendery but his skin is sensitive so I can't use that anymore, he has a pretty bad nappy rash through teething at the moment and I out a few drops of lavender oil in his bath last night as I heard it is good for healing, he seems fine skin doesn't seem irritated.. also I got a little spray bottle and put about 3/4 water to 1/4 lavender oil and shake it up and spray it in his room about half and hour before bed time, he settles very well at night.

I would apply a small amount to the bottoms of feet. Diluted with a carrier oil (coconut is my prefurred choice) even at a young age. It alwayse seemed to help DD.

What is a carrier oil? I've read about using a carrier oil but I don't understand

Carrier oil is just a plain oil to dilute the essential oil, sometimes almond oil is used but you could use olive oil etc x
