LEEP Procedure

About a year ago I had a LEEP procedure done due to high grade dysplasia. A follow up pap smear found that there are still abnormal cells. My my doctor and I were planning the next step when I found out I was pregnant. I'm terrified that I won't be able to carry this baby to term. Only a few people even know that I'm pregnant. I wasn't planning to get but my child means everything to me now.

I got an abnormal smear test 2 weeks before I found out I was pregnant. I had to go for a colposcopy 2 weeks ago but I refused to let them do it in my first trimester. I want to go for my ultrasound first and see my baby is ok before they start poking me around but even then I will be very reluctant. I have also told the consultant that I will not allow him to do any treatment until after the baby is born as I can't stand the thought of another miscarriage.
He told me that if they found cervical cancer then he would strongly urge me to have treatment immediately but just read that it means I would have to have a termination! I just can't do it :(

I had a leep and had follow up paps with abnormal cells. I have had a perfect pregnancy so far by 23 weeks. They do monitor my cervical length but so far there has been no concern. A lot of times if your cervix starts to thin they can put a stitch in to prevent it from opening.
I was scared -and still am at times - and I hope it all works out for you ladies :)

This was about ten years ago, but I had HSIL, that's what they called it then. I think thats a CIN 2 or 3. They decided to watch and wait, with a follow up pap in six months. In six months my body had cleared the infection and I haven't had an issue since. What I am trying to get at is, if it is not cervical cancer and just medium to high grade dysplasia it is more likely that your body will clear it than not. I would avoid the Leep during pregnancy and opt to moniter with a pap every few months.

I find it alarming that they are doing so many Leep procedures now. The body is really good at clearing hpv infection. And cervical cancer is slow growing. On the flip side, if they had told me to get the leep when I was 18 I would have totally done it without question. It's easy to say wait, when you have already done so with a good result.

I had a LLETZ 2 years ago after my daughter was born. I now have IC but also had other surgeries that could have caused that. I had some spotting on early on this pregnancy and because of my cin history they recommended I had a colposcopy. I was worried about this, being pregnant but they explained to me, nothing goes any where near your baby. Your baby is the other side of your long closed cervix and having a colposcopy (same as a smear, sept with vineger) Is no worse for you than having sex. Sex in fact is a lot rougher on your cervix. They wont take any biopsies or anything bcos u are pregnant.

The consultant told me that if he sees something suspicious then he wants to do a biopsy but I am 100% adamant that I am not having that done.

I also want to mention that with my deliveries since I had the leep done my cervix would take a while to start dialting then once it got to about 3-4cm it took hardly any time to get to fully dialted. In my last labour I told my midwife that I was getting ready to push so she checked me and I was only 3 cm dilated. 3 minutes later and Holly was born, in a bit of shock!!
