There's always something pregnancy or baby related we somehow don't know, no matter how small or simple it seems.so I thought let's make a thread for those new mummies who are encountering their first or jog the memories of mummies already. What did no one ever tell you what you wish you had known?

I wish someone had informed me that when my waters were manually broken with a needle, it'd feel like I was peeing myself for hours until the placenta was delivered.

Lol, I love this! Ok, so with my first,no one told me that when my milk came in, make sure to be wearing a VERY supportive bra. I got home with my son, my milk came in, and I was in sooooo... Much pain!! I didn't know at the time either, but I had over supply, which made it worse.

This happened more with my 2nd, but after delivery, when I started nursing, the uterine cramping was almost as bad as contractions!! Whoa, they hurt!!

I wish I knew about all the cramping that came along with the uterus growing. It freaked me out at first.

That my boobs would leak so much I would be putting maternity pads in my bra for a few days :haha: sorry to freak anyone out, true stories ... Hahaha!

Oh and the fact that I couldn't change my clothes or bra without the nipple pain lol!

I didn't expect the hospital to thrust formula on me the way they did. And I wish someone had told me that you don't get oodles of milk within the first few days and you have to build up your milk supply. I panicked, gave him formula (along with nursing) and it took me 3 months to build up my supply enough to exclusively breastfeed him for the next 12 months.

Noone told me cabbage leaves could soothe your breasts whilst feeding .. my friend swore by it..

For me noone prepared me for tearing and recieving stitches sheeeeesh xx

My boobs leaked ALWAYS!!! if I was nursing , I had to wear pads. And a bra. I hate sleeping in one, but its a must for me while nursing. I had so much supply, I could pump 6-8 oz and still have enough to feed the bubba.

hahaha that's how it was for me. It was crazy lol. I'm gonna breastfeed again tho.

Showers hurt! Your nipples are SO sore from bf'ing at the beginning that even the water from the shower hurts. A lot.

And men say women aren't strong lol. I like too see them go thru being pregnant, deal with labor, and everything else that comes with it lol

That the day you come home with your baby all you'll want is for someone to drop a warm dinner off and leave (thanks dad!). I still credit my parents for selflessly doing that for us.

That building supply up takes time so even though you feel like you have no milk to give you really have to work at it to get better.

That a belly compression band worn religiously for the first month or two can do wonders for your tummy and give you your flat stomach back! Can't recommend it enough! And I didn't spend $$$ on mine either :)

What is a belly compression band? You have me intrigued.

It's a band that you wrap around your abdomen tightly to help your body go back to normal. They tend to be stretchy and are held together by Velcro. I bought mine at a maternity store after having my son, was skeptical, but figured it couldn't hurt to try. I'll be honest, I wore mine 24/7 for the first month...even at night  I hear it can also be helpful if you've had a c-section but someone else will have to confirm that theory.

I wish I had worn the band! Instead, I have rectus diastasis, and will have to have physical therapy after baby #2 to try to coax the muscles back together. Even when I wasn't pregnant, my insides would bulge out--I thought that was how it is for every mother!

That you can breastfeed lying down! I didn't find out until katie was a few days old and had been struggling to sit up due to stitches! Once I found out things became miles easier xx

weeing on a labial graze!! Oh my goodness the pain!! Makes labour seem like a walk in the park. I refused to drink liquids for nearly a whole day as I was so terrified to wee because of the pain, until the midwife told me off and made me drink :haha:

Finally found a certain position (sitting on toilet seat leaning forwards with both hands on the floor and legs up in the air!!) that meant the wee didn't sting my graze/tear.

Also remember to trust your instincts. Midwives were trying to send me home a few minutes before I gave birth because I "wasn't in labour" - thank god I put my foot down!!
