I didnt really know which section to put this in but I thought I would try here! My 20month old daughter is having problems with constipation. She has a good diet and drinks plenty however when she is feeling off it she wont eat which makes her constipated. We have seen a doctor which was more than useless!!! If she is off her food I can always give her yoghurt, that is one thing she never refuses.
Anyway, I have been doing some research on the benefits of Linseed (flaxseed) and it sounds great plus contains omega 3! I can buy ground linseed and add it to yoghurts, I am thinking of a yoghurt a day!! Plus I have also read it is good for pregnant and breast feeding mums. I am 31 weeks pregnant and you all know the trouble that can cause in the loo department.
My question is does anyone else take linseed on a regular basis? and have you noticed a difference!
Thank you in advance.

We haven't tried linseed but I will look into it for my LO who has trouble pooing sometimes. Have you tried cutting back on dairy? I've asked various people about it before and that always seems to come up - that milk and yoghurt etc can actually make the problem worse, or cause it in the first place. It doesn't make a difference for my LO but I thought I'd mention it anyway. Prune juice works though. You can buy it in bottles or you can make your own juice/puree from dried prunes.

Hi Rachel. She wont touch anything tasting of prunes. Have offered her it before because that is what I would take for myself. Its so difficult isnt it. I give her yoghurt as at least I know she is getting something, the same with her bottles of milk. If I cut them out it may make her better or it might mean she is getting nothing. She is so funny with food at the moment, especially when she hasnt filled her nappy for a few days. I think I will try the linseed first then cut down the dairy if we have no joy. Definetly look into it and let me know what you think!
Oh and thanks for the reply!

My LO doesn't like prunes either :( Once I worked out that dairy didn't make any difference, I started stirring just a teaspoon of prune puree into a strawberry yoghurt each day, or I make ice lollies from fruit juice, yoghurt and prune juice and she doesn't realise it's prunes. It's not ideal but better than seeing her in pain.

I like the idea of making prune juice lollies! Will have to give that ago, think she might like them with fruit juice!

I don't take ground linseed myself but my Mum does for constipation. It works really well but be warned don't take a lot of it and make sure your LO drinks loads of water to soak it all up as it is very effective! I've taken various flaxseed tablets for years as a veggie source of Omega 3 and have never had any constipation issues so it is definitely worth a try.

I swear by it! Got terrible constipation in pregnancy &once I started on milled flaxseed/linseed at breakfast it never bothered me again! :)
