I'm pretty certain my 6 month old Daughter has a lip tie. SO far it is not causing any real problems.

I am wondering if there is any mamas out there who have not gotten their childs lip tie revised and how that ended.

I am wondering because i have read many stories of the families that did get their childs revised and had to do it multiple times because it just kept reattaching.

Mine had one. They don't do anything about it here in the UK while the child still has their baby teeth. They wait to see if it causes issues with the permanent teeth. My dad had one cut when he was 12 for this reason.

My kid broke hers in a little accident when she was 11 months - apparently most children end up doing so eventually!

It has not reattached - it is still attached at the top, like a regular lip frenum, but the tight part that went down to the teeth snapped. It really helped our bf latch.

My daughter has one. If you haven't so far experienced any feeding issues, then I wouldn't be too worried about it. I think the only time it can cause a problem later in life is by creating a gap in the teeth. My daughter doesn't have a gap and so we didn't bother to do anything about it (we had loads of feeding issues that went on for quite a while, but by the time we discovered the lip tie it was too late anyway and they had resolved themselves). If there is a significant gap in the teeth, you can sometimes get a referral to have it snipped, but it isn't commonly done. When I inquired about it (before her teeth came in and we were wondering what she should do), I was told there was someone up in Surrey who could do it (we live in Dorset) so I think it's not something that's done in most cases. Often they break at some point anyway.

My 6 year old has a lip tie.it wasn't noticed until she was roughly 8 months.i had problems with breastfeeding and her latching on, when I discovered it I realised why I had them problems.other than that it hasn't caused her Any problems.she does have a gap between her front teeth and a slight lisp, but the lisp could be just the way she talks anyway.she has always been forward with her speech, so caused no speech delays, as sometimes the Dr's say this can happen.im.not planning to have hers snipped to be honest as it's never caused an issue.like others have said, I don't think many people snip lip ties now enless the are a serious issue to development

DS1 had a lip tie that he broke at ~14months falling on a toy

DS2 has a lip tie as well, I'm sure he'll end up tearing it himself at some point with the way he's carrying on!

I posted not too long ago about the same issue. Only recently discovered ds3 lip tie. Doctor wasn't too concerned and as pp have said it appears to break whe adult come through. So far ds3 has a gap between his top two teeth. We bf successfully for 6 months and like I said I only discovered a few weeks ago xx

My daughter had a lip tie and had quite a gap in her teeth as a toddler. The lip tie isn't there any more and she doesn't have a gap. She didn't have any accident or anything, so I don't know how the lip tie broke but it eventually did and I didn't notice!

I've never seen a baby without an upper lip tie so I'm starting to wonder if it's somewhat normal? My sons was bigger than my daughters but both had one, and the tooth gaps.

Agreed, they come down very low in most babies. But it's when it is tight that problems tend arise to with breastfeeding, leading to all the hype about lip ties.

By pulling the lip up and looking for blanching, you can determine whether or not the tie is tight. Here is a photo of my daughter's, with blanching, before it broke.

For what it's worth, we had awful issues with nursing strikes until her posterior tongue tie (which is almost always accompanied by a tight lip frenum as well) was snipped, and a horribly crappy latch until the lip tie snapped like an elastic band after an incident involving a coffee table at 11 months. So they definitely can be very troublesome.
