Ok just had to find this. Because of the major outbreak in canada I thought I would share this mostly to my canadian neighbors. I think some people here think that buying high quality meats, smoked meats raw fish etc.. is ok to eat well it isnt. Listeria doesn't grow on food because it has gone bad. Please read Listeria monocytogenes and Epidemiology It is so crazy one what can happen to an unborn baby :'(
Did you know listeria can take up to 90 days to show symptoms. So just because you ate some smoked fish or deli meats and feel great a few days later it doesn't mean anything..... Big hugs and I hope you all read

Not being funny but why is there always such a huge fuss what you can and cant eat?! Before any of us got pregnant Im sure we all ate something that was bad or not cooked properly and we were fine, Now we're pregnant I know theres another person to think about but In my opinion posting this is going to worry everyone sick! By eating one peice of deli meat or pate really doesnt mean the end of the world or end of the baby!
My mum ate anything whilst she was pregnant with me and my brother and we are absolutley fine.

I'm sorry if this offends anyone but i have to agree with this. I have been petrified of even eating some Bernard matthews ham (which i am craving like you wouldn't believe!) since i first read about not eating ham. I am already checking ingredients for everything and now ham etc we can't have. It is too much. we are under enough stress already without having do's and don't to worry about on top of all that! I ate ham with my other 2 pregnancies and they are both extrememely healthy.

Sorry but i agree too allways have ..
I ate everything right with Layla she was my first i was niave and believed everything i read .
With Finnley i was under soo much stress i couldnt read every packet to see if it used raw egg etc .
I stayed away from Alcohol , But other than that ate a little of what i fancied when i fancied it .. I had a very healthy baby .
This time iam eating the same , When i spoke to my mum she said when she was pregnant with me , They didnt even give warnings about smoking and drinking ..At 9 Months she was in the pub every other day lol. And lots of women had healthy babies !.
It is a personal choice , But allot is just them using guess work , With Layla there was nothing about Tuna now suddenly you cannot eat it , She was only born 3 years ago !!.
As i said its compleatley personal choice , I would never Have an opinion of some one who did follow therules and eat exactly as told , Its just not for me .
Just watch because in a few years the list will tripple of what you cannot eat . xxx .

I have been eating tuna but in moderation and i had ham the other day as i didnt know/see any reason why i couldnt???

I ate raw sugar cookie dough yesterday , I only ate a tiny bit though as I was paranoid , I wont even eat soft serve ice cream anymore because I had read about the listeria thing earlier , and I even wonder how safe the foutain soda I drink is . with my other kids I didnt worry at all and they are all fine .

I used to think listeria was something rare that really only affected people with pre existing health issues. I have cared for a patient with Listeria and it is horrible. The patient had to be set into a medically induce coma like state. It is a serious disease and should be taken seriously.

That being said though I agree with the fact that we as pregnant women are getting out of control as to what we can eat and can't. Many years ago our parents and grandparents were born to smoking mothers who ate and drank whatever and they for the most part were healthy (some exceptions always) they did not have nut allergies, asthma, and tons of ADD, Autism etc. I think we get so out of control with worry about what we do that we sometimes cause more harm then good.

I completely agree too, i think its completely blown out of proportion. Pregnant women spend 99% of their time checking what they can and cant eat, reading the backs of packaging or checking up on the internet whats safe and whats not to eat, this causes women enough stress as it is !

Ive been eating what i wnat lately, at the start i was adament i wasn't going near the foods i was told not too, but its just ridiculus now. The only thing i havnt touched is runny eggs, which i reckon ill have atleast one in the near future !

We have enough to worry and think about without the added pressure of what is safe to eat x

I eat whatever i want to, i just use my head a bit more. Like if was to have kebab meat before pg and it looked a bit undercooked i'd eat it anyway (probs coz i would have been drunk ha ha) but now i'll pass if i think it looks dodgy, i'm not avoiding food things just coz i "shouldn't" eat them. As long as we don't go licking raw chickens i'm sure we'll be fine, i mean how many times have been poorly off eating soft ice cream, c'mon they sell it to babies in Mc Donalds for gods sake

i have been dying for some soft ice cream - but am too bloody scared to have it!! :grr: as for licking chickens - i stopped doing that as soon as i got my :bfp:

I have decided that I can't be worrying that much - considering I have a horse and am in contact with 'farm' and countryside environment on a very regular basis. I probably have ecoli already! or listeria!

i ate half a tub of triple chocolate ice cream, a Big mac, pepperoni pizza all stuff like that witch people say i shouldnt since i found out i was preg, and hell the day i tested i had runny eggy sarni for lunch lol chickens well ive gone right off chicken all together for some reason i think ill avoid rare steaks and such but some of that stuff i think is just a load of rubbish..

my mum smoked and ate whatever she wanted while pregnant with me and my little brother ive never had asma? or anything like that and i know for a fact my aunte drank, smoked and ate everything in sight while pregnant with all of her 3 and there perfectly fine

The post is mostly referring to the Canadians as there is a Listeria issue there.
Us girlies in the UK should be fine to eat our cold meats still :)

Arrghhh guys this was to the poor canadians (like myself) who have the horrible listeria outbreak in many many products. I mean MANY... I feel kind of attacked now :( *cries* I was only trying to help them.

:hugs: dont feel attacked. I can understand what the other girls were saying and it was maybe misread that it was mainly to the Canadians.

kinda makes me feel uncomfy now to post anything yikes. Well I hope they read my last post. Thanks arcane. I am glad you noticed it was to canadians *Hugs*

Continue posting, your info will be useful even if it is just for the Canadians :)
Lots of hormonal women in here, some of us are a bit firey lol

Shame honey, dont worry its not personal at all - i think everyone is feeling a bit sick and tired with posts on what you can and cant eat, dont see it as an attack on you! hugs x

Well I'm Canadian and I do appreciate it since even before I got pregnant it was something I'm wary of because of the news. Since I'm pregnant and have another little one to think about I am taking more precautions.

Other than that I don't worry about what I eat. I eat what I want when I want :p just like alot of others apparently :)

Aww Hun, i definately and im sure the rest of the girls here didnt mean anything by our posts !! I admire you strongly for posting this advice, it is important and especially to the canadians who are suffering the listeria outbrake.

Apologies for making you think we were having a go, it wasn't like that at all. :hugs:
