Hi All,

I've just been reading keldac's thread about "the importance of reduced fetal movements" and it kinda scared me a bit :( So I guees I'm looking for a bit of reassurance...

I'm pregnant with a baby girl and she's not a very active baby (unlike my son when I was pregnant with him a few years ago). She does move around a bit - just not a LOT! She'll sometimes be moving around for a good few minutes at a time. But then it'll go a few hours with very little activity from her. Again, I'm basically comparing this to the last time I was pregnant (where he was a very active baby for the most part)!:baby:

I know every baby is different and if I'm ever worried, I just have to touch my belly a little and it will always trigger movements from her. So I know she responds to touch :)

I had a scan only last week and heartbeat sounded fine to me. Nice and strong. HOWEVER, it was a 3d scan so I kinda have this thing in my head that because it wasn't actually a "medical" scan as such, that maybe the doctor wouldn't have been looking out for anything unusual medically..? (On the brochure, it states something along the lines of: "this scan is not intended for medical purposes and you should still attend for scan with your hospital").

I'm probably just being silly but it's freaking me out ever since I read that thread today :( And at the same time I'm wondering if it's all in my head:blush: Right from the start of the pregnancy I've been thinking it was too good to be true as I had 2 miscarriages before I had my son (both early on, under 12 weeks). So this time around, I was almost expecting something to go wrong because of what I've been through before. I just keep thinking that I can't be lucky enough to have a straight forward pregnancy without any heartache first?!

I have a check-up with my GP tomorrow so I'll probably mention it to her just in case (but I hope I won't sound silly or like I'm over-reacting).

Anyways, sorry for such a long post but I'd appreciate any advice or reassurance you can give me on this. Is anyone else pregnant with a not-very-active little one? Has anyone already sought advice about the same thing? Or are there any mothers who have had a previous pregnancies where baby wasn't overly active in the womb?

Basically, should I be worried? It's not like there WAS LOADZ of movement and THEN NONE. There just isn't loads of movement to begin with. Could baby just be a little lazy? lol

Thanks everyone  :hugs:

hey! im in belfast so not too far from you!
how far on are you?
im also pregnant with a lazy girlie! she usually has a lively period in the evening, but in general, shes not a jumper or wriggler, she just adjusts her position a bit to get comfy, i was very worried at first, and even went to hosp for a NST but she is fine in there, and just not an active baby! secretly, im hoping it continues once shes here lol!

hey hun, could be the position of the baby, or even the placenta that can dull your movements a bit. i went to hosp a few weeks ago panicking cos of reduced movements. had scan and everything was fine, she was moving that i could see on the screen that i couldnt feel. just always rember every pregnancy is diff, and always talk to your mw if u have any concerns....we all worry 2 much that we are over reacting, but as this forums shows we all get the same xxx

Every baby is different they are all individual! Maybe she is just very comfy in there!
My belly has a few minutes kicking, punching, going mad etc, then the next minute she's completely quiet.
They do sleep most of the time. Also she may be very active while your sleeping, or when you are busy and not really paying much attention.

Thanks for your replies! I wasn't expecting them so quick :) :hugs:

NIfirsttimer: I'm just over the 29 week mark. My little one is very much how you described - she just adjusts her position and occasionally gives a kick or two. It's reassuring that a baby CAN actually just be a little bit lazy lol

Lisa_33: thanks for your reassurance. It has made me feel a bit better to know I'm not the only one with a baby that's not kicking the life out of me all day lol

And Pessimistic: thanks for your comment aswell. I don't wake with any movements at night but that's not to say she is not moving whilst I'm asleep. I am quite a havy sleeper

I posted about this a while ago as well. I have an anterior placenta which meant it took me ages to feel regular movement. But, even so - I reckon my little chappie is a bit lazy!

I feel him at certain times of the day, but certainly not lots at all....

According to my obstetrician he is doing great (and seems to move also without me noticing as well - apparently he was at my last scan!).

xx

My LO is the same hun. I have an anterior placenta and waited until 24 weeks to feel anything, and never worried about it, but now I freak out if i don't get anything. Last week i ended up with the midwife as nothing all evening and nothing by lunch the next day. Needless tosay everthing was fine, just a sleepy baby!

She advised me that i needed to contact her if i had less that 9 movements (no matter how slight) from 7am to 7pm :)

Hi hun! I had a panic about this a while ago and phoned mw who said that as long as I feel 10 movements in every 24hrs I shouldn't worry. She said to count even the tiny little movements :) but not to count one massive load of kicking as 20 kicks, just as one movement (don't know if that makes sense lol!)

I'm expecting a girl too and although she drives me mad when I'm trying to get to sleep, there's only one other time in the day when she's that active...lazy girl!

If you're worried though, give your mw a call :hugs:

Thanks guys. I haven't tried the whole couting thing yet but maybe I'll give it a go.

It's good to know I'm not the only one who was worried about this type of thing. Puts me a bit more at ease!

Hi Caroline, I know this was a long time ago (30 years) but my mother in law said both her sons were completely different. Her first son used to kick h*ll out of her but my hubby was a very quiet baby and she used to wait all day to feel a movement so it just goes to show all babies are very different.

I seem to have a baby which is really active somedays then sleeps for days on end, as if its tired itself out! I fine Im usually tired too when its quiet and I wonder if its busy growing??! ATM I think baby is facing inwards as the kicks seem muffled and in my back.

Try not too worry, they are little rascals most of the time :)

10 movements in 12 hrs is what they say ...also drink 2 glasses of iced water as fast as u can without being sick laydown for 20 mins and baby should move out of way of the cold x

Thanks Claireclaired! That is good to know hun!! xx

Serina27, thanks for the advice! As it happens, most times when I have a cold or a hot drink, I feel the baby move almost within seconds of it :):)

I'm sure it's fine hun, but definatley check with your GP tomorrow - it'll make you feel loads better and I'm sure the GP would rather you asked than continued to worry about it. :)

Good luck - am sure you don;t need it though!

:dust:Sam

Thank you FairySam. I guess I'll worry over one thing or another until baby is in my arms.. I will mention it to the GP though! It'll be worth the peace of mind even if I do sound like I'm concerned unnecessarily. x

If she moves in responce to hot and cold drinks i wouldnt worry too much but if u are ever Concerned then ring mw they will have u in to monitor baby and put ur mind at rest xxx

I will do! Thanks Serena. I'm actually classed as having a "low-risk" pregnancy so there won't be any further trips to the hosp. I go between GP & clinic for the remainder of the pregnancy and I don't think the clinic have any scanning facilites :(

But I'll give the counting a go and if all seems ok there, I'll try not to worry as much. Otherwise, I will ring the mw like you said.

they wont scan u ....if u are worried about movements they will put straps around your tummy and monitor baby bh and movements for 1 hr ....if your clinic dont have these they will send you to somewhere that does ...dont worry about ringing and sayying thats what they are they for

If your baby has always been 'lazy' but the movements have not reduced then baby should be ok hun.

Just to reassure you, this thread is aimed at reduced movements from what is 'normal' for your baby, so therefore if she was really active and is not now, then you should be contacting someone.

As has already been said, if you are getting 10 movements in 24hrs, that is a good sign. Ice cold drinks can make baby move, as can baths and music.

As you said, check with your GP tomorrow hun for peace of mind. :hugs: x

Hey sweetie,

You sound like a wee worrier! But i know exactly where youre coming from! i had to go to the hospital one time (check i didnt have pre-eclampsia nothing to do with movements) and my LO is VERY active and on the machine she showed 30 movements in 20 mins when i spoke to the midwives about this they said every baby is different, and with the 10 movements in 12 hours thing.. it has changed 6 times and is currently 6 movements in 2 hours, she told me to ignore this and just make sure LO is moving as they normally do, some babies are lazy some are very active, so if you notice a change on their routine call the mw. If your LO has always been like that and she responds to your touch anyway i really wouldnt worry and maybe thats a good thing she will maybe be a very laid back calm baby!
All the best hunny and bring it up with your GP tommorrow as she will be able to reassure you xxx
