Hi
I am a new dad to be for the 1st time, and I'm starting to get very worried, hopefully over nothing !! My wife is nearly in week 28 of her pregnancy and for about the last 3 weeks there has been very little or no movement from our little bump.It started with a period off 3 days where my wife could feel nothing at all so we went to the hospital and the doctor done a scan, on the scan we could see that the baby was moving slightly and there was a good heartbeat but my wife still couldn't feel anything, but we left feeling happy that we could see movement, and she went to her gp a couple of days later and the gp could hear the heartbeat and didn't seem worried that she couldn't feel any movement, but still 2 weeks later my wife can only feel the odd flutter.
I feel (and i could be wrong) that at this stage even I should nearly be able to feel something by now. Up until about 3 weeks ago my wife was getting flutters nearly every hour, now its gone to just a few a day. I am starting to get really worried now. I know this sounds very naive but what could this mean, does it mean that the little fella is just lazy, or could it be something more serious, has any one else experienced anything like this ?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Pregnancy can be a worrying thing... It might be as simple as where her placenta is placed is causing reduced feeling of movements or like you said it could be as simple as a laid back and lazy baby... Being in the 28th week I assume that you will see your doctor quite soon so I would talk to them about it at that point... Here (Alberta, Canada) they recommend seeing someone if you aren't getting 6 movements (flutters or whatever) in 2 hours they ask you to come in... That said, I also base it on MY babies patterns... I won't do my kick counts at a time of day that I know my baby generally isn't active, if you know what I mean...

If you are every really in doubt about your babies safety though, go in and get checked out it takes hardly any time especially once you factor in the peace of mind you will get

Usually at 28wks you can feel baby move quite often and vigorously. However, it does vary between women depending on baby's position, how many previous pregnancies they've had etc.

I would have said get her checked out, but you already have and everything is fine with your little one, so I'd just try to relax and enjoy the pregnancy. This is seemingly normal for your baby x

she needs to go back!! Get a 2nd opinion if you need too!! I had little to no movement at 28 weeks and it continued. I was told it was normal from my "wack" of a doctor. I believed him b/c he was the "doctor". At 32 weeks nothing I did made our daughter move. We went to the hospital to find out she had passed away. We delivered her stillborn. PLEASE get her checckedd again and EVERYDAY of you have to!!

My oldest daughter never ever kicked or moved. I worried everyday till each dr appt when i would hear her heartbeat again. she is now a happy healthy (lazy) 10 year old. Im not saying its normal, but it does happen that they just dont move a lot. Good luck!

I have exactly the same problem but i had a placental abruption with my son so was told it was very important to monitor movement as this is how the problem was detected. I had a scan last friday and waited 2 hours to speak to the top consultant as i like you was having a lot of panicing especially as i was 34 weeks. I will tell you exactly what i was told.

As you have just had a scan and the baby is looking well then for the 1-2 weeks it is important to make sure you are doing a movement chart ( i know that these are not normally common anymore but she wanted to get an idea of what is normal for this baby) She said do not worry if you have days of hardly any movement as long as you write down when there is a movement and by what time you feel 10 movements if you feel 10!

After 2 weeks you should then have a pattern of what is normal for your baby and it maybe that you only feel her a couple of times in the day but this will usually be around the same time ( she did say a pattern isnt usually noticeably till after 32 weeks though!)

If you then notice a difference to this pattern then go and get checked!!!!

If it makes you feel any better i had hardly any movement at all ( seriously sometimes i would go 3 days with nothing) and it has only been this week that i have really started to get something!! Maybe because now i am making a conscience effort to track them.

If you have any questions please pm me as i had an hour long conversation with this top consultant on this exact problem so would be mor ethan happy to chat with you.

I had a very quiet baby. But any day that i didnt get my 10 movements or felt that she was quiet i would get checked out. Its so important that you do. i was seen at least once a week. movement is what you and the doctor use to no baby is ook. It turned out my babys reason was the cord was wrapped around her arms and legs and this restricted her but we didnt no till i had her. You must get seen agagin and then get seen every day that your baby is quiet. Your midwife or doctor should be able to advise what movement they expect you to feed. Its normally 10 in a 1 hiour period but it seems we are all told different. My midwife said to me she would rather see me 100 times for false alarms than miss the time they can help. There is also a sticky thread in the 3rd trimester on the importance of movemnet

Please please please don't just ignore lackof movements. After 30 weeks I can now clearly sayi had less movement. But being my 1st pregnAncy I didn't really know what kinds of movements I shouldve been having.every day I saw her bottom or head move and stick out but no limbs or kicks. I thought this was normal and she was a lazy baby.how wrong I was. Midwife visited on Xmas day when I was36weeks.And no heartbeat could be found.hospital confirmed she had passed away.I still had the head or bum sticking out though. So what I thought were movements was actually her just settling in the liquid and adjusting to my posture. I will certainly count movements in this pregnNcy and def expect jabs from little one. I won't feel like a Burdon to my midwife because my relaxed approach to my last pregnancy did me no favours. Post mortemrevealed she was underweight suggesting not enough nutrients and oxygen. Hence reduced movements as she had just enough energy to breathe.

I don't wAnt to pannick u but just don't take what health professionals may say if they try and tell u all is fine.

I agree with the other ladies who suggested your wife gets checked out again. I had complications from 34 weeks and I was told by every Dr, Midwife etc to go in if I had reduced movement. They do not mind checking you over - you're NOT a burden, it's the health of your baby that is the most important thing, not a concern that you're going for nothing.

Saying that, i'm sure there's nothing to worry about but please ask your wife to get checked all the same.

:hugs:
