How much are/were your LOs having at 4 weeks? Mine has just over 3oz every 3-4 hours. I'm wondering if this is too much?

We were on a growth spurt then so LO was having 5-6oz every 3-4 hours and the HV was happy with this :)

Hi there mine is now 5 weeks but have been record

Oops pressed post too soon (bloody phone!!)

I've been recording what mine drinks as advised by my HV as i said to her that my baby varies the amounts he feeds. once he only took an ounce!!! (WTF!?) He feeds 3 hours normally like clockwork and Feeds anywhere from 2-4 oz. At one point he downed 5 and 1/2! In a 24 hour period he has 8-9 bottles. Is this normal? How many bottles do your lo's hhave in 24 hours?

Sorry about spelling etc! Doing this on my phone

My LO varies between 6-8 bottles. Sometimes he will only last 3 hours between feeds, sometimes 3.5, sometimes 4 hours. He has 100mls every bottle, so just over 3oz. The only reason I'm worried he's having too much is because he weighed 2.8kg (6.2lbs) when he was born and had shot up to 3.5kg (7.11lbs) by the time he was 19 days old. 6 days later when he was three and a half weeks he was 7.14lbs. Is this weight gain too fast? I'm worried we are over feeding him. I know weight gain is good, but surely there is a point where it's too much too fast?

Have you seen your HV who can advise? The amount your lo is eating seems normal to me and from what I understand babies wont over feed they will take what they need.

Our HV was the one who told us he was gaining weight too quickly and to stretch out his feeds. As he was originally having 90mls every 2 hours. But he would projectile vomit a lot of the time when we were doing that. So once we started feeding him 3-4 hourly, it seemed to stop.

I don't know about weight gain, but I would say that if he drinks it and doesn't spit it up, he needs it. Every baby is different. I'm doing mix-feeding since she's 2 weeks old because my DD has no patience so breastfeeding is a total waste of time: she'll drink for 5 minutes top and then get fed up, but will get hungry again 15 minutes later lol. So she wouldn't gain any weight. It's working; she was back to her birthweight at 3 weeks. Even with the bottle, she needs nipples for 6-7 months old with fast flow...and she was born at 6 lbs 2oz, so tiny baby!!:haha: Now she drinks 2-3 oz every 2.5-3 hours (sometimes 4 hours), even at night! She usually gets half breastmilk/half formula (she loves the stuff!!) With slow flow nipples, she would barely drink 1oz before falling asleep on the bottle. She just has no patience:haha:

My LO was also 6lb 2oz at birth. By day 14 he was 7lb 6oz so he's probably gaining at around the same weight as your LO. No one has mentioned that he has put on weight too quickly. My HV said that smaller babies often put on weight more quickly and they seem pleased. I'm mixed feeding at every sitting and he generally takes around 90ml of formula but this doesn't seem to be filling him up now so I'm going to speak with my HV tomorrow about increasing the amount!

Phew, I'm glad I'm not alone then haha. My friend's LO also gained a lot of weight quickly in the first 2 weeks and she was born a little over 7lbs. So you're probably right, little babies probably need more to gain some fat on them. He's definitely becoming a chunky monkey!!
