Evie was having baby rice once a day from around 4 months and seemed to enjoy it. At 5 months I started to introduce fruit/veg by offering the hipp organic jars, however she doesn't seem impressed. She eats almost a whole one at tea time but moves her head side to side a lot and fidgets and I sometimes feel like I'm force feeding (which i'm not btw). I'm wondering if she automatically just opens her mouth and doesn't really want it . In the day I give her pieces of fruit and she goes mad for pineapple but she doesn't show the same enthusiasm for the jars. What would you do?

Personally I find a lot of the jarred foods are utterly tasteless. I use them occasionally (more so when Earl was younger) if we've nothing in suitable for him to eat at tea time. I'm surprised though- Hipp ones are normally the better ones.

It may well be that she's used to stronger flavours (especially if she's into things like pineapple). Earl loves to eat what we're eating. Try offering him something 'for babies' and most of the time he'll spit it out! lol (heinz biscotti being the lastest exception to this! lol). I would try her on some home-made stuff. I know it can be more hassl but I'm programmed now to make extra and if like tonight I'm eating after he's in bed (hubby's away so want to eat in peace lol) I'll save him a portion for lunch/dinner or even both lol.

You can either mash with a fork or a potato masher or if you have a hand blender. You could even cook things abit longer and pass it through a seive. Add a bit of water or even formula and you're away!

I also started with baby rice too then moved to jars (Hipp organic jars- one of them), but omar hated all veggie jars, & took some of the fruit ones. I dont get jars anymore as he prefer real food. I started by overcooking & fork mashing, but now I just cut food into small pieces & spoon feed it to him.

TBH those jars don't taste of much I think they add water, so I can't blame her for not opening up ;) As suggested try homemade stuff instead, I'm surprised at how much my LO likes stronger flavours.

you could try elli's kitchen stuff they are puree in a foil packet and they are strong and really smooth my friends little boy loves them, my lo prefers something a bit less runny. Nothing in the but puree though

Maybe the reason she goes mad for the pneapple is cos you're giving her pieces of it to feed herself? My baby turns his head from side to side when I try to feed him anything from a spoon but will hold things and munch away at them (strawberries, melon slices, kiwi, toast to name just a few) so we're going with baby led weaning and he's enjoying it. There's a BLW sticky thread at the top if you want to look into it.

Some babies just want to be independent and do it for themselves
