right, my baby girl is 5 days old now.. im still bleeding loads and there are also alot of dark red clots, im still in alot of pain from down below and there is a minging smell!! (think its infected..)

theres not very much of the normal blood flow that ive read about but is mainly stringy, jellyish clots of blood, it ranges from bright red, dark red almost black, to a lighter pink/ red.

when i go from sitting to standing i feel it gush, and when i move i can feel that its quite stringy and clotted.. its really horrid :( i also keep getting the odd pain in the bottom of my stomach like where i would feel period type pains.

im not over doing it because i live with my parents so dont really do that much only sort me and baby..

i have midwife tomorrow so will mention it to her but if its infected i cant get a perscription untill monday :( am just starting to worry now.. is it normal? :s

Your uterus has to heal the patch where the placenta was attached to it.. And it has to do so in a very special way, to allow for the ability to house another baby in the future.. It basically has to shed layers of damage, similar to how a wound heals on your skin.. A scab, then it grows out, and out, and out, and eventually there is new, clear skin.
I imagine you havent introduced any bacteria (no sex, no tampons, right?), so I wouldnt assume infection.... Lochia has a different smell to it. It can also be remnants of placenta, I've read that has an odd smell.
Your healing sounds normal to me.. I had a c-section myself, so I'm afraid I can't compare your situation to mine.

Totally normal. Mine didnt smell great either for a good few weeks...

thanks guys :) read some bits online and they said about calling an ambulance if you see a few different things.. and i noticed a few of them so worried.. not worried enough to ring an ambulance though as i feel well enough apart from the aches.

youve all reassured me that i will be okay to wait untill i see midwife x

If you are still worried ring your midwife/hospital and explain it to them, they will be able to advise you better xx

And congratulations x

The second mine smelt the mw sent me to the doctor and I had an infection.it shouldn't smell bad Hun so go to the doc and make sure it's ok incase it's not and it gets worse xx

Its supposed to smell "musty" as I've seen it described...not like a normal period. I thought I might have been infected because I didn't expect the smell of it...but I wasn't...it just smells off. As for the clotting...I didn't do a lot of that so I'm not sure. Hope all is well

There was a slightly different odor but it wasn't very strong,.. definitely 'musty' like someone else said.
I did have plenty of clots, thats normal.. only worry if they are bigger than a golf ball.

Its supposed to smell different from a period but if it smells really bad then its probably an infection. I had one - the signs for me were severe pain in my uterus and very bad smell.
