I don't know why this is bothering me but I have been just thinking...

I do drink alcohol, though I never breastfeed when I am feeling it. I always, when in doubt, test my milk and make sure it tests negative before I feed her, which is rare when I am worried of it and feel the need to test (on a weekend we go out).

After all this time BFing now, I am worried on long-term effects... Even though I don't feed her at all when it is in my system. She is hitting her milestones and beyond. Why am I obsessing?!

:/...

Why do you obsess? Because we are programmed to obsess.

Even if LO got some alcohol transfer in breastmilk, it's so minimal it's no big deal. I would stop testing, as I think it's a waste of your time and effort and causing you undo worry. Instead, drink moderately when you do. My lactation consultant said if you can get behind the wheel you can get behind the boob. She also said alcohol isn't transferred in milk that readily, instead the major side effect is affecting your letdown.

Relax. LO is fine! :)

I drink the odd glass of wine and still bf, however its not like I get plastered :haha:

Well I'll be honest, I dont get plastered but will have more than the odd glass of wine ...

If you test when worried and dont feed till you feel sober i wouldnt worry. we dont have to deprive ourselves of everything. i like a drink too but hold of bf till i feel sober. i worry a bit too, but i did the same with dd1 and she is fine, dd2 is developing great and was crawling at 7 months. i certainly dont get plastered but do sometimes have more than 1

I follow my mommy instincts. If you feel worried, then maybe it's best to stop.

I think there are much better things to obsess over!

Stop giving yourself a hard time. I could not have got though the first 6 months without a glass of wine or two!

I worried a lot about this with my first but the only time my milk ever tested positive was after I had a bottle of wine (yes a bottle) and. 4 Smirnoff ice's. apparently I thought I needed to forget who I was. I was plastered. It was pretty much the only time I ever got drunk after having him. The next morning my milk tested positive. I've had.two margaritas before and didn't test positive. I'm not gonna worry about it as much this time.

On the Australian breast feeding website it actually states that breast milk with a low amount of alcohol is better then artificial Milks and formulas .

I wouldn't worry

It is normal to worry but it sounds like you did everything right. Nothing to worry about :)

Haha I could have wrote this!!! I have a glass of vino a night and often 2! Tolerance is low so 2 hits me hard! Baby sleeps 12 hours so I don't worry. But sometimes on lunch dates with girlfriends I have a margarita or a glass of wine. I wouldn't worry!!

My midwife told me I can have a drink without any negative effects - unless you are so drunk you fall down and vomit (her words!) you can still nurse your baby!

i have quite happily had the odd glass of wine while bf even during the 6wks i was BF ds1 and hes now 5 with no ill effects from it.
Ive never tested my milk either for alcohol
