I am 26 weeks 5 days with my 2nd child (2nd pregnancy). My first son was born when I was 30 years old, no complications, no high BP or GD. He was born on his due date...easy breezy pregnancy/delivery.

This pregnancy (age 35) I am being treated for high blood pressure that I only have when I go to doctor appts. I have white coat syndrome I'm pretty sure. Until the baby started moving, my BP was high at the appts as they checked for a heartbeat and then I had regular BP up until today....when they informed me I have Gestational Diabetes. I was upset and felt defeated and feel like that is why it was high. I have a monitor at home and have checked BP daily and its never high. I feel like I've made myself high risk all of a sudden. I have to switch BP meds and start glucose meds. I'm am relatively healthy and gained 20 lbs so far-exercising and eating low carb. Have any of you had high BP (no other pre-clampsia symptoms) and GD and gone on to have a natural normal delivery? Do these complications automatically almost guarantee induction/c section?

I didn't want to read and run. With regards to gestational hypertension I'm not really sure there is much they can do other than keep regular tabs on it. If it stays high they might induce you which may lead to a c-section but some women have a high bp [it is relatively common] and go onto have a natural birth. I think you have to look out for signs of pre-eclampsia too but in all honesty with all the monitoring you're having and in general women have it's not necessarily as scary as it sounds.

With regards to gestational diabetes aside from regular BM charting to monitor your sugar levels it is more to do with lifestyle. A low carb diet doesn't mean its as healthy as it sounds. You should be aiming to eat carbs which are slow releasing gi so the sugar enters your blood stream at a slower rate and therefore you wont get a spike on your BM. Also when eating fruit eat one piece at a time as it does have natural sugar in [which is good for you] but can lead to a spike in BM.

Heres a link to a gi table which might be helpful: https://www.the-gi-diet.org/lowgifoods/

Also exercise is good for you and baby.

Hope that is of some help :hugs:

My mother had GD with me (was also in amazing shape from being in the military, only 21, etc) and was induced, but only because she was 42 weeks. I came out at around 6 lbs, so no big baby from GD for her. (vaginal birth with epidural)

I had gestational hypertension with DD and had to be induced at 40+6, due to some red flags the doctor noticed during the non-stress test and ultrasound (I was fighting to go as long as possible before induction). I didn't have any of the other signs of pre-e like protein in my urine, so I was allowed to go as long as possible even with the hypertension. (vaginal birth with epidural)

So GD and gestational hypertension didn't lead to inductions with us, but we both still had to be induced for other reasons, but still had vaginal births. Each pregnancy is different, so I wouldn't rule out your chances until you get closer to delivery and re-evaluate how you and baby are doing. Good luck! :flower:
