Good afternoon ladies my name is kristina im a few weeks away from being 29 I had a tubal reversal in october of 2010 and have been trying to conceive for 7 cycles now with nothing! I hear from alot of tubal reversal girls that they were able to get there bfp after IUI im no dr. but TR girls have alot of complications trying to get preggo and mcing :( Anyways I was wondering if you guys could tell me if your ins. covered any of it? and if not what the cost is and what I should expect? thanks so much

I think everyone's insurance is different. Mine covers up to $24,000 in fertility treatment but won't pay for any meds. I think it will also depend on who does the IUI. My OB is a fertility specialist who does certain procedures such as IUI... anything more complex I'd have to go to an actual Fertility Specialist. I had my first IUI in January- Clomid cost me $10.. $75 for the sperm wash.. and $80 for the IUI from my OB. REALLY cheap. I sadly lost the baby in Feb. so I am going to be going back through it~ this time with an actual FS as I just want to deal with one doctor if this doesn't work and I do have to move onto something more complex. I have no clue how much it will cost with him as I haven't gone through it quite yet. I'll be taking Femara and then having the IUI. I didn't have any u/s done with my OB- so that is a cost as well- whereas the FS IS going to do an u/s. Good luck my dear! :hugs:

holly thanks for giving me some input :) Im soooo sorry for you loss my sister had been seeing a fs for like 2 years now she has done everything except ivf due to the cost and she too just had a mc :( It really is sooo sad how hard it is for some to conceive and carry a baby to full term. I do know that she took the femara and it was one of the ones she liked good luck keep me posted

thanks my dear. All losses are hard- but I do feel that a loss is MUCH harder when you go through a battle just to get to that point. I'm sorry about your sister's loss. Losses are WAY too common- and so is infertility for that matter! best of luck to you too! :flower:

You will need to call your insurance provider and specifically ask them what they cover as far as infertility is concerned. My insurance covers ZERO! In fact, the blood test to confirm if I am pregnant or not isn't even covered UNLESS it comes back positive. Some insurance companies for lack of better word: suck!

Although, like Holly said some OBGYN will do fertility stuff. In January, I went to my OBGYN, she will prescribe Femara, do ultrasounds, and prescribe Pregnyl ... and yet somehow the way she codes it, my insurance actually pays for it. My OBGYN even told me specifically, I will code it as "Diagnostic fertility" as opposed to "fertility treatment.

Unfortunately, I haven't found any OBGYN's that actually do IUI so I had to go back to my RE (aka Fertility Doctor). Where ZERO is covered and he makes me pay at the time of service IN FULL. UGH! Can you say DRAINING! Anyhow, my numbers may not be exact but here is the "about" cost per month for me.....

Femara 5mg (10 pills): $80 (not covered by insurance for me)
Follistim Epi Pen Injections: $450 (1 month supply not covered by insurance)
Ovidrel ovulation induction: $90 (1 shot, not covered by insurance)
Ultrasound: $275 EACH (1 to 2 per month--Not covered)
IUI: $400 (Not covered)
Sperm Wash: $250 (about, not totally sure--also not covered)
Progesterone vaginal cream: $90 (1 tube lasts about 1 month--not covered)
HCG Beta Blood Test: $200 (like I said, only covered if it comes back positive)

Therefore our monthly expense out of pocket runs about $1800-$2000.

Hope this info helps a smidgin :) GOOD LUCK!!!!

YA, you are probably right then. I had my HSG done back in February, I asked them to try and run it through my insurance (just in case they'd pay just a little for it). I just received the bill in the mail today for $915 and insurance paid zippo, zero, zilch. So frustrating, but what can you do right?

I will gladly hand over money as long as they can get me pregnant :) Unfortunately, last month was just horrible, after spending about $4000 (all the start up costs) I ended up having a miscarriage but yet I still had the bill in hand that I had to pay. Needless to say, it was a little depressing.

But, I do know this ... The fertility specialist can get me pregnant (well NOT HIM PHYSICALLY :haha:) but you know what I mean tee hee! So in the end it's worth every penny spent. My daughter cost me around $10k and I would do it all over again because she is my world and is absolute perfection!

pcosmom I totally agree there really is no cost to high when it comes to getting your baby :) The TR cost me 7000.00 and now this but I feel like I have come this far there is no way i can stop! I see it took you 6 years ttc your lil girl you must have been on cloud nine when you finally found out you were expecting :) I only have been trying for 7 cycles but I feel like this is never going to happen I just know that when it does happen im going to be in heaven :) it will mean soooooo much more im sure

We were in disbelief when I got prego with my daughter...I do believe I took about 15-20 tests within a 3 day peroid. After worrying for 8 weeks (after the positive blood test), I went out and bought a fetal monitor (I was a little OCD teehee) every morning I would wake up and chexk the babies heartbeat and I'd do the same routine before bed. I was petrified that I would miscarry...obviously she is healthy and all that worry for nothing. Now I know how rewarding it is to be a mom, I can't stop at 1. Not to mention, my daughter deserves a sibling :)

Anyhow, you will get ur BFP ... Sometimes they just take some time. It makes me appreciate it so much more....like a miracle blessing.
