So yesterday my daughter came up with a stye (she used to get them all the time but they stopped a while a go). Then this morning she told me her ear was hurting on the outside it hurts to lay on it and touch it. So i made an appt at the drs for the afternoon. Just after lunch she came up with a red spot on her face, i figured maybe she caught herself as she can be clumsy. When we walked the dog i saw another on her neck. Then checked her torso when we got home and she had a couple more spots on her front and back. Checked her before bed and she has some more a couple in clusters all on her torso, arm pits, neck and face.

Problem is they look like chicken pox but she's already had chicken pox really bad 2 years ago (she was completely covered and has some scars from them they were definitely chicken pox).

We saw the dr, she didnt look at the spots just checked her ears, throat, temp and glands. She said glands are slightly raised and she just has a mild virus. I said is there any chance it's chicken pox again (eventhough i know your only meant to get them once) she said no because she doesnt have a temperature (though she didnt really have a temperature when she had them before). It's really confusing me.

I know logically it must be another virus but I'm worried. She's up and down like a yoyo, one minute shes hyper, the next she's not feeling well at all, her eyes look red (not just the one with they stye)

I know you guys cant help. Would just be interested in any ideas of what it might be?

I am keeping an eye on her

My sister had chicken pox twice although it was fairly mild both times. I have heard some people just don't develop immunity to it properly.

Could it be hand, foot, and mouth? Any spots anywhere else or just the one on her face?

My DD had HFM a few months ago and her bum was covered in spots, but she just had one on her hand and three on her face (and nothing on her feet).

I had chicken pox as a child 3 times! Each time it got less and less severe, I just didn’t build up many antibodies. So it could be..,, hope she feels better soon.

Why couldn't it be chickenpox again? It is possible to have them twice. I had it twice and it was bad the first time.

I always thought you could get chicken pox again ? My girls have just both got over it .

Maybe it’s a reaction to something or a viral rash of some sort ? Sorry just throwing ideas out there , either way I hope she’s feeling better soon ! X

It's definitely not chicken pox they haven't blistered at all like chicken pox do. Most people would only get chicken pox once in their life unless they had it mildly the first time. I know very few people who have had it twice but when they have it's been once when they were a kid and once as a teen or adult.

She got a couple more spots yesterday (one on her neck, one on her torso) but is now fine in herself so I'm putting it down to a random virus. They aren't itchy or anything and one of the first ones she had is going. Will keep an eye out for any more

Hope she's soon on the mend. Both my DD and my nephew have had chicken pox twice.

Difficult without a pic but is it molluscum?

When I was a little girl, I got something called pityriasis lichenoides et varioliformis acuta. It was like really severe chicken pox - I still remember the feeling of the scabs coming off and leaving big, sore, soggy craters in my skin! It was quite a stubborn condition and in the end I had to have sun treatment (basically standing naked in a big sun-bed style thing with a towel over my eyes) to get rid of it. It never came back though. I'd have a look online to see if it could be that. If it is, I don't know how they treat it these days, but other than a couple of scars, I've had no problems from it.

Juat an update. It cleared up pretty quick and turns out her bestfriend had exactly the same thing. They went bug hunting together a few days before so we think they may have touched something while bug hunting either that or it's from the friends hot tub, though no one else that used to the hot tub came up with them. But either way other than a few more spots over a couple days it cleared up pretty quick and you wouldnt even know it happened now
