our twin daughters were born 6weeks early. in the NICU they slept well, naturally some movement initially after feeding, but for the most part they passed out pretty quick. because of their size they were fed a mixture of breastmilk & calorie fortifier & neosure.

the lactation specialist people of our hospital were extremely persistant with having my wife pump.. they wanted her to pump 6-8time a day, plus nurse each girl for 10minutes per feeding, and then pump after aswell.. needless to say, the stress factor of it all was too much.. we did what they wanted us too, but it only lasted a couple weeks into the home duration..

we now have them solely on the Similac Neosure. sometimes we use the RTF, but for the most part its all the powder/water mixture as that's what being consumed.. it seems that in the past week and a half they both become extremely fussy after being fed considerable amounts of food.. getting them to lay in their bassinet is nearly impossible as all they do is kick, bicycle pedal and cry. they will sleep ok in our arms, on our chest, carseats or the portable high chair seats..

the last time we seen our pediatrician he had mentioned keeping them on the neosure for possibly 6months to get them the calories they need.. with them being the 6weeks early they were born at only 4lbs.. now at just under 7weeks of age they are both 7 & 8lbs each.. we have not seen him yet for the next round of checks, and it seems the fussiness started after the last visit..

today we picked up some of the gripe water and just added that to their current feeding.. we will have to see how the rest of the night goes. we are up to trying anything, even if that means testing some other formula's behind the doctors back..

looking forward to any helpful recommendations.. mommy and i need some sleep and so do these girls.. much thanks..

Try winding them after every oz (30ml) of food as it sounds like they need to burp.

Hi there
It might be good to post in th eprem baby section as it may be common for premmies. You may get more informed advice in that section:flower:

As for sleeping it sounds completly normal and something my 7 and 1/2 week old and i am still battling with. I bet as they get bigger they will be more comfortable in their bassinets. My LO is getting more and more used to it.

It could also be a bit of reflux or intolerance to the food so it is something you ought to discuss with the peadiatrician. babies can change and you think you have their bottles and feed cracked then they change their minds!! Believe me!:winkwink:

I must give you lots of hugs though as the idea of having twins scares me to wits end. One is hard enough! Sending you lots of hopeful ZZZZZZZ

Might be nothing to do with food but as they develop they just want to be held, lots of babies are like this . Will they settle if put together in a cot
