Date Born: 24th July 2012 at 38+6 weeks
Time: 19:27pm
Weight: 6lb 7oz
I started to get irregular contractions on Sunday morning at 6:30am. Didn't actually think they were anything as this was my first pregnancy so I wouldn't have known what to expect. They were really irregular ranging from me having 1 contraction in an hour and sometimes having upto 8 in an hour.
Monday the same thing was happening but they were getting slightly stronger, still irregular though. The pain was across my stomach at first and throughout the day started getting pains in my lower back. After 2 nights of not being able to sleep as the contractions kept coming in the night, on monday morning at around 5am i went to tell my mum i couldn't stay at home, i wanted to go get checked because I was so tired, no sleep, i wanted to cry with each contraction because i was so tired!!
Phoned up the hospital, they said to time the contractions for an hour as they would really like them to be 4-5 minutes apart lasting a minute each. In that hour my contractions were lasting upto 70 seconds and coming randomly between 2-7 minutes. I had a bath which did not do ANYTHING for me, so phoned them back and said i wanted to come in. They agreed so off i went.
When I got there i had to wait in a room for about 40 minutes. I got checked at around half7/8am, i was between 2-3cm dilated. I told her i wanted an epidural as i was so tired i hadnt slept in 2 days. MW told me to go for a walk for an hour around the hospital and she would check me again as I had to be 4cm before i could get an epidural.
Went for a walk, came back, waited around half hour to be check again this time i was 3cm. She said to me would i like to try pethidine as it's meant to help you relax. I said yes please, I got shifted to the room which i would give birth in and let me just say the room was MASSIVE! A huge hot tub incase i wanted a water birth, a sofa, everything! Was better than a hotel! I had some gas and air and then i had the pethidine which HURT! 20 minutes later i fell asleep for 3 hours! As soon as the pethidine wore off i could feel the contractions getting slightly stronger, all i could do was breathe through the pain. I asked for another half dose of pethidine, didnt work as well the second time. The MW checked me around 5:30pm and said i was 5 cm and that when she returned at 8pm i should be 7cm.
The rest is a blur up until 7pm. All i remember was such intense pain, non-stop this is when i started screaming, crying and swearing at the midwife!
She went to check me and my waters burst on her hand! I was fully dilated and felt an urge to push! In around 5 pushes my baby boy was born weighing a healthy 6lb 7oz!
I can honestly say that last half hour worth of contractions was painful for me! I didnt feel no stinging as baby's head was coming out, that didnt hurt me probably because i didnt have any break between contractions!
I had a tiny little cut which didnt need stitched thankfully and i returned home the next day!
Love having my little baby boy at home with me, best feeling ever!
