Low AMH, Anyone tried DHEA?

Evening All

I am starting IVF on 24th Feb and starting to get worried as since my AMH was only 1.8 Ng which falls in to the low fertilty range i am going on the max stimming dose 450 iu of Fostimon. I have been reading up on the net as you do and their seems to be a lot of people taking DHEA to imrove egg quality.Not sure if this is allowed prior to IVF just wondering if anyone knows anything about it.

hi i havent tried it but have read up about it .you need to take it for about 3 months as thats how long it takes to makes new eggs

personally i wouldnt self diagnose, i didnt want to mess with my body. Its also only available on the net and that worries me,

have you tried acupuntcure that imporves blood flow and egg quality , eat lots of protein during stimm as that will help. make sure you go to a fertility trained person

Thanks hun, I was thinking the same things as you I don't think we should do the messing with hormones, I'll leave it to the experts. I would love acupuncture but I think it's quite expensive I'll try and find out x congrats to you on being pupo it must be and amazing feeling x

It's hard not being in control. Ivf drugs are ordered tried shopping around but no real savings and the clinic get them direct through pharmasure it seems, paid £876 so not that bad as i am going on the highest dose of fostimon. Also waiting for a call back to discuss accupunture so its all systems go. Hope you are coping ok with being pupo x

Hi all

Ive just joined today after realising the wonderful world of forums...what better way than to talk to others going through the same!

My fsh has been on the rise the last year, and got told last week that my amh is 0.7!
Im waiting to hear if they will consider DHEA for me and possibly IVF! I dont think they will from what im reading!

Does anyone know of anyone who has had any luck with such results?

i have low amh.. 0.46
i have one cancelled and one failed ivf cycle.
i have collected 4 and 1 egg in the above cycles.
now i taking dhea 50 mg, coq forte,bee pollen ,royal jelly.
i m taking high protein diet. will do this for 3 to 4 months thn will go for next cycle in aug/sep. good luck to all.

Hi there, I know this is an old thread but in case anyone is still looking at DHEA, I've been taking it (ordered from the States) just over 2 months and I don't know if it's the reason but there was a slight difference in my private test AMH levels in April - 6.7pml and my AMH taken by the NHS a few weeks ago - 7.5 pml - it basically puts me in the normal category (in the UK the base of normal is 7 apparently) and while this is still not very high considering my age (31) the only difference has been taking DHEA and continued accupuncture sessions. Interesting! I didn't know it could go up. Also, I don't think AMH is an indication of egg quality, just quantity. It's a pretty under researched area but it was our private assisted conception doctor that 'unofficially' suggested DHEA so there must be something in it right?

Hi Mrs Evans, I'm taking 3x25mg tablets a day, with food. The only side effects I've noticed is my hair shedding a little bit. Apparently hair loss can be a side effect but it will stop if you don't take them any more. It's nothing drastic for me although it's driving my DH mad finding my hair everywhere

The NHS are super cautious about recomending anything that hasn't been trialled but results in the States are apprently v.positive. I know how totally awful it is hearing that you have a low AMH - followed closely by, what the heck is AMH?! I've been told by a doctor that although it's low AMH for our age - the eggs are only 31 so that is in both our favour. I'm working on looking at the positives!!! Good luck

I dug out the printout the doctor gave me on DHEA:

DHEA is a long term treatment. ie: it should be used for at least 3 months before starting IVF stimulation.

I took it for 2 months along with melatonin and wheatgrass and I got pg with low AMH after 2.5 years and 3 IUI and 4 IVF. Sadly ended in MMC but I still did it. I shall be taking it again as soon as this MC cycle has finished.

Hi Tansey, thank you so much for replying. So sorry your pregnancy ended in mmc. Thinking of you. I have v low AMH, we did get preg naturally earlier this yr but sadly that ended in mmc. I def think I'll order the dhea, now just need to find some pma from somewhere! Great to see you're going to try again. xx
