Hey girls, just looking for some words of advice.

We are half way through our first IVF cycle, had egg collection yesterday & got 17 eggs which we & the embryologist were really pleased about.

Unfortunately today, only 3 out of the 17 have fertilised, she said the sperm wasn't binding to the eggs.

I am really disappointed, I just hope they survive until Monday when they will decide when the transfer will be.

Anyone else had expeience with this? We are using a sperm donor due to azoospermia so it's not a poor quality sperm problem.

:hugs:

Hi hun,

My first cycle I had 24 eggs and only 3 fertilized - they told me after that it was due to a thick shell on my eggs - likely from my ohss (half my egss were done with ivf and half were done with icsi).

3 is still a fabulous number lovely. xo I will be praying for you. :hugs:

Thanks Blue, I reckon I will be praying all weekend for my 3 embies!

Congratulations on your ICSI success!!!

I totally understand the fears - thinking will all three survive to day 3 - and they did - and then I had mine frozen due to severe ohss - and thought none would survive the thaw and they all survived the thaw.

As hard as it is, believe in your little embies, they are fighters like their parents. xo

All the best hun, will be thinking of you!!! :hugs: FX xxxxxx

Best of luck to you hun! Hope all goes/went Fabulous!!!!!

Baby dust!!!

I have no advice but wishing you the very best of luck. :hugs:

Is your clinic using IVF or ICIS with the donor sperm?

Like someone else mentioned it can be the outter shell of the egg making it harder for the sperm to get into and break, it can be just the sperm just not finding there way to the eggs and swimming around them and not doing there job (if its normal ivf).

If they use ICIS then they would break the outter shell directly which normally can give better fertizliation rates as there breaking the outter shell direct with the ICIS needle however sometimes when the sperm is left to do the job its self in normal ivf they dont do it well enough and sometimes have problems getting into the egg..

WE had 17 eggies and but due to eggsharing i was left with 9.. 8 out of my 9 were mature and out of the 8 only 4 fertizlised with ICIS..

DP has sperm issues, low on everything so we were always advised ICIS was needed. However on the actual EC day DP sperm was lower than past results and had to do a few samples before they found strong enough sperm to use!!

All 4 embroys grew but 2 were the best ones we had transferred on day 3 and as you can see we have one fighting pink little princess on board :)

Anything is possible hun, as long as you have embroys then your in with as good as chance as anyone else - they can only transfer two in our cases in the UK anyway so as long as you get 1 good embroy then you have as good chance as anyone else.

Good luck xx

I just read your journal i see you got a lovley embroy on board.. SO GOOD LUCK hun..

Thanks!!! I spoke to the clinic yesterday & they said if this cycle failed they would do ICSI next time. Hopefully this one will work though, & I'll find out if my other 2 embies made it to blast for freezing!!!

Again, everything crossed for you hunni! :dust: :dust:
