Hi Anna, 10 is very low. The tablets gave me problems in the beginning but now my system has gotten used to it and sorry if this is too much info but I now go to err poop more than usual!!! I have branflakes every morning and I think that really helps in that department.

Along with the tablets, there are the usual stuff that are full of iron such as green leafy stuff (spinich), red meat, sardines, eggs, dried apricots. These are the ones that come to mind. And vit C helps absorb the iron so orange juice is great.

Hi,i don't think 10 is very low, mine was 5 when i was pregnant with twins.

You can get liquid form from holland and barret which should help yout because you're not in the extremely low group.

Tablets never helped me anyway but i ended up having a blood transfusion around 32 weeks.

I think 10 is boderline of being low. Mine came back at 11 or 12 and I was told to increase my intake of iron rich foods. You can start including Spinach, Kale, Beans, Lentils, Red Meat, Eggs & Look for breakfest cereals that are high in Iron and Fiber. Fiber will help you not to get constipated! If you get a high Iron cereal, have a glass of orange juice with it to help aid the absorption xx

Hi, i take Spatone iron sachets which are available from Boots and always on their 3 for 2 offer. Its just natural high-iron mineral water so it doesnt bung you up or upset your tummy, i've taken it in both pregnancies and never been low on iron despite not eating meat or fish since i was a kid. Its about £7 for a month's supply but as i said the boxes are always on their 3 for 2 supplement offer. Mix it with orange juice and avoid drinking tea to help absorb the iron. I would take it for a few months after the birth too. Link below. xx

Not sure if they have these where you are (I'm in US), but I've been taking Slow FE iron tablets, which are a slow release during the day--they say they cause fewer digestive issues. So maybe try something like that. Another option would be iron-fortified cereal. Or I guess red meat or other animal products (I'm a vegetarian, but I know iron is supposed to be easier to absorb from animal than vegetable sources). Also, drink orange juice or eat something else with vitamin C (red peppers, tomatoes) when you have iron-rich food because it helps with absorption.

My iron was 9.2 2 weeks before my due date, I couldn't take the tablets they gave me either, so I got some orange flavoured liquid iron from asda. LO came 3 days early and they checked my iron levels right after I gave birth and they were up to 11.4 so it worked really well
