Had my 20 wk scan and baby is healthy and fine however recieved a bit of a shock. The ultrasound tech said that i had a low lying anterior placenta. She didnt say anything else and said hopefully it should move up as bump grows.
However i came home and googled it and realised that there is a massive chance i could have serious complications as i have a previous c section scar and the placenta can grow into it!!:cry::cry:

Has anyone experienced this but found that the placenta moved off the scar without growing into it?:cry:

I also have a previous CS and was told that my placenta was lying low at my 20 week scan. There is a chance as you say that the placenta has attached at the scar site but there is a better chance that it hasn't. I also googled it and read some horror stories  but my ultrasound radiographer said that it would prob be ok and not to worry. I am being rescanned at 29 weeks to check the position. Worst case scenario, the hospital will be fully prepared for any problems and so will I as I will be fore-warned so to speak. I am hoping that it has not attached there and it will move up as I am hoping for a VBAC.

thank you for the reply tazgirl. You sound so brave. i don't know whats wrong with me i just can't stop crying. I'm thinking the worst will happen. Was your placenta anterior (in front) too?

Yes my placenta is anterior too. I am not brave hon, honest. I just believe that the chances are better that that the placenta has not implanted at the scar site. It's also ok to be upset about it :hugs: Have they booked you in for a later scan to check the position then?

yes i have another scan booked at 26 weeks then again at 32 weeks. Just have to wait and see what happens.
I managed to find a few posts by women in our situation who had the placenta move straight over the scar and not grow into it so will just ahve to wait and see i guess. I think i just need a bit of time to get over the shock that this has happened.

I don't have that problem, but I do have some other complications...one of the first things I learned was "Don't Google It!" I scared myself so badly. Its way too easy to look something up, read tons of scary statistics, and start thinking the worst.

Stay positive, remember the good stories you found, and try not to stress! <3

I also just found out I have a low lying anterior placenta and I have had two prior c-sections. My midwife said nothing about the placenta growing into the scar, she did say it was my choice if I wanted to have a scan at 30 wks to see if the placenta has moved up which it usually always does. I hope mine moves up as I am also hoping for a VBA2C.

With my son I had a low lying posterior placenta but it had moved well out of the way later in pregnancy.

Scarlett. Did the tech tell u if the placenta is very low near the cervix as in previa (sp?) thanks for the reply!

Iv also been told this, aint to concerned as iv had 2 previous c-sections so more than likley i will have one this time

Were you told that the placenta was low lying near the cervix? Was it anterior?
I'm so worried wish I has your confidence hun xx

With DS 2 I had low lying placenta at 20 wk scan bit was rescanned at 34 wks and it had moved and my section was fine x

Thanks for the reply!:flower:
Do you know if it was really low and nearly covering cervix? Im nervous because mine is so might not move up. Also was yours anterior ( outer side of womb?)
also did you have a c section previously? Thanx!

At my 20 week scan I was told I had a low-lying posterier placenta, and so will have to go back at 36 weeks to be rescanned to see if it has moved. (I too have had a previous c-section).

I googled it too when I got home (which is always fatal!) but to be honest I wasn't overly concerned, (maybe my complete naivety!) but the information on placenta previa (covering the cervix completely or most of) seemed more of a worry (and an automatic c-section) - with posterier and anterior there seemed to a statistic that it moves towards the last trimester, hence the rescan to check, (as I would like to try for a VBAC). From speaking with quite a few colleagues/friends they have had, or know of someone who have had the same experience and find that it has moved by the time they get rescanned.

Big hugs hun, try not to be too concerned with it all (easier said than done I know!), but fingers crossed all will be well when you have your next scan.

Mine was totally covering my cervix
& was a posterior placenta & I'd had a previous section

The consultant described it like a put a dot on a balloon and blow it up the dot moves x

Hi Just want to say this thread is exactly what iv been looking for, I had my 20 week scan and told I had a low lying posterior placenta. It is not over the cervix just near it but all I have done for three long weeks is panic after doing the dreaded google search. I am panicking so much as I hated my section with my lb and do not want another :nope:

Glad there are some more ladies like me out there, I have to wait till 36 weeks to get my next scan, I have booked a 4d scan though in 6 weeks so hoping it has moved by then and the sonographer can tell me some good news. xxx

I was told this is a risk for me if I go on to have a 5th baby because of the chance of the placenta attaching to the scar after so many c-secitons...he said in my case it would be a 10% chance. So I would think your risk would be much much lower since you only have one scar. And he also said it would be a risk to the baby or me but it would result in a hysterectomy...which is horrible but if the baby was ok, I guess that would be most important.

This is the main reason I've decided to be sterilised at this section as will my third and do not want to risk anymore
Plus I'm more of an odd number person lol

Thanks ladies! This will only be my second and that is why I really want a hysterectomy avoided if possible :(

:hugs: I don't have a c section scar - this is my first baby, but I also have a low lying placenta - posterior though. Baby is healthy and thats what matters! I am being rescanned at 34 weeks to see if its moved... if not, it's gonna be a c section - which scares the hell out of me! But once baby is healthy, we can handle anything! You'll be ok.
