Low morphology advice

My husbands SA came back as only 3 per cent normal for morphology. The other results were well above average. He has to do a repeat test to see if they improve.

Does anyone know what the next step would be if they don't? Would IUI work in this scenario, or would it be straight to IVF/ICSI?

Has anyone else DH had similar results and what did you end up doing?

Hey

What was his count like? If he has a 'normal' count then they might spin the sperm and go for IUI first? It all depends on what is offered in your area - in our postcode we only get 1 go of IVF and there isn't any IUI?

We did a good mix of multi vits and no alcohol etc and his morphology went up although we are 90% abnormal forms when we had our IVF. Good luck x

thanks for the reply. His count was 67 million and motility 60million.

He will be getting tested again, but just trying to work out my options if things don't improve.

Where we live, we won't be entitled to anything free, so will have to pay for it.

His count is excellent Hun! When you say 60million morphology did you mean 60% or 60 million are motile?x

Hi! Good sperm count, maybe IUI will work for you. My DH morphology was also 3 per cent but only 20 mill sperm count but his motility is 70% which is good.
Going staight to ICSI, too few good spermies.

The motility is really good hun? If you look at the WHO guidelines then your hubby has really good motility - it means that 60% know where they are going! x

Thanx! Apparently 14% is considered normal. He even had testosterone injections, which actually made the last semen analysis report results even worse! (Sperm count was so low they couldn't do any further testing on the forms of the sperm.) So, just giving him Vit C, Omega 3 & 6 and a multivit with calcium. Luckily I'm all fine, they must just pick the best
sperm out of the few! P.S. I have been taking Pregnacare Conception for the last couple of months. It comes all the way from London!

Sorry to hijack your thread, but I see you are from York - we're in the same PCT. I knew they stopped funding for IVF last month, but is it the case that we can't get IUI on the nhs either?

Having been treated unsuccessfully with clomid at my local hospital, i've been referred to leeds. My appointment is in December. I knew that IVF was off the cards but had hoped for maybe some IUI. Is that not an option either?

Hey you! Repeat the test hun, may be a one off.... Anyway... not sure about iui hun, my clinic said you need at least 10mil motile normal forms for this. So count 60% of 65mil, then take 3%of it (normal forms) and multiply on the sample volume.... Our count is only around 25mil/ml (average count from all 5 tests ) so it was icsi for us
The problem with morphology is that in most cases they don't know what causes it.... The usual checks a private doc would do are u/s for varicocelle and a prostate examination...(nhs didn't do anything!) Infection of the prostate and high testicle temp caused by varicocelle could damage the sperm and cause the morphing issue. This was not the case with us ....we had both checks. Another theory is that this is caused by oxidative stress and enviromental toxins.... DH was prescribed a 3month course of high dose antioxidants 1000 mg vit C and 1000 vit E.( and me being me i went and bought everything you could think of and i keep feeding him every antioxidant under the sun) ...

P.s one of the ladies on here ...her DH had 2% morphology, they moved to the other side of the world to a lovely nice country away from the rat race and his morphology went up to 22% on its own! I think she's giving birth as we speak....

I know how you feel hun, my OH Motility is 25% (6% A and 19% B) but 0 Morphology, is total count was 22mil, the specialist said my OH sperms had the explosion bit at the front of their heads so all they did was expload on each other! (the explosion bit is usually bewteen the head and tale so when they fertilise the egg the tail seperates from the body and the head goes into the egg)

We are waiting for hhis secind result this week. IVF seems are only option at the moment and as i have a son already we wont be able to get funding so looks like no babies for us

sorry to hear that michelleann. Hope you get a better result this time.Were you given any advice on how to improve it at all? My FS just told hubby to cut back on the booze.
