Today at my anatomy scan my tech told me I had a low placenta. I asked if it was covering or on the cervix and she said no. She also said that 99% of the time in her 15 years of being a tech she said she sees the placenta moves up. Even though she said that I am in panic! My last 2 were delievered vaginally and am terrified this would end up in a section! Anyone else had a low placenta that did not cover the cervix in you mid pregnancy scan and not end up with a section?!

The tech said the same thing at my 18 week scan, including that she more often sees them move upwards as the pregnancy goes on.... Haven't had a call for a F/U scan and I see my MW this Friday.

This point in the pregnancy the uterus is going to do a lot more growing.... No point in worrying until you get closer~

Hoya i did last pregnancy they gave me an extra scan at 32 weeks had moved plenty up as the uterus grows with baby it helps pull it up out the way the majority of the time x

I have this too and have to wait until 36 weeks for a repeat scan, I understand how you feel, I don't want a section but just keep telling myself as long and baby (and me!) are ok that's the main thing, x

I keep reading a bunch of positive stuff. I keep reading it is rare when the plcenta stays down low by the time you give birth! Omg I hope that is the case with us waiting!

Mine moved away between 19 and 21 weeks. I had to back for some more pics cause baby girl was being stubborn the first time.

I have this and have a repeat scan next Friday. But I will say my best friends placenta was covering her cervix with both of her pregnancies and it moved up with both so she was able to have vaginal deliveries with her kids.

That is good to hear about your friend. Please update me on your scan next friday!

No reason to panic. She's right, it will most likely move up on its own. You should be having another ultrasound around 30+ weeks to check and make sure. I didn't have it with my first but I found at my 20 week ultrasound that it was low lying with this baby. Sure enough it had move 6" away from my cervix at 30 weeks and everything is fine. I also found out she was breech so I worried that she wouldn't turn but at my appt. today she's head down so a lot can change in a short period of time.

I had that with my last pregnancy...so I was panicking over a c section - it moved out of the way.......then my daughter flipped to breech, cue more panic...then she turned head down - all good....until my labour went on forever, I failed to progress and ended up with a c section anyways!!! She was a 9lb baby - so I'm glad they just got her out of there!!! My c section was no where near as terrifying as I'd thought it would be and my recovery was great....this time I'm going in for a scheduled c section. I wouldn't worry....most of the time the placenta moves out of the way - and it's not like you can control anything that's going to happen...just go with the flow xxxx all the best

I had a scan last week at 18+5 due to a heavy bleed and my placenta is low with a corner covering the cervix. I have my 20 week scan next Thursday so they will check if it's moved, if not the will check again later in pregnancy. I have a low placenta woth my.last son and it had moved by the time they scammed me at 30 weeks x

Thank you to everyone who has shared their experience with this. I called my doctors office yesterday to find out the distance between the 2 and the nurse said she would have the doctor call ne himself and also told me to not worry brcause the greater majority move up by 30ish weeks like many of you have said.

Before I had children I had a massive cyat on my right ovary, they had to do a csection cut on my abdomen (not uterus, that is why I have delievered my last 2 vaginally). I did not do well with that surgery. Several days after the surgery was done and I had gone home the incision reopened and had to go back for painful attempt to restitch. That did not work so they left the incision open and we had to change the dressing every 6 hours daily until the incision fully closed over a month later. So that is why I have an extreme fear to another incision that size and in the same spot.

I had a low lying placenta and was told by nearly everybody I spoke to that it should move up so chances are that yours will

Wow, so glad to find this thread! I just got a call with results from my last scan and was told I have placenta previa. They also said that there's a good chance it will move up, but it is good to hear that from others. Has anyone had this experience with placenta previa, specifically--not just low placenta?

I had placenta previa with ds3, from my limited understanding though placenta previa is just a low lying placenta it's just not referred to as placenta previa until later in the pregnancy (mine was only referred to after 32 weeks). Placenta previa can be very serious so you should listen to any advice your midwife/doctor gives you. By chance I found out at 34 weeks that I should have been for a consultant appointment but it had been lost in the system so make sure that doesn't happen to you. Looking back my midwife was very flippant about the condition and it was only a fluke that I had a more senior midwife for one appointment that I was made aware of how serious it is

According to the research I have done "placenta previa" is when the cervix is being covered by the placenta. "Low Lying placenta" is when the placenta is 2cm or less from the opening of the cervix.

I called my midwife and I guess mine is not a complete placenta previa, but a partial one. She just didn't know from the ultrasound report how much was overlapping. I hope that it is a good sign though and will resolve eventually!

Mine was covering my cervix at 14 weeks and it was concerning me, hearing these replies is reassuring as I want a homebirth again.

My placenta has completely moved out of the way today at my scan! its gone from being low and covering part of cervix to now being up the top!! I"m.so pleased x

Thought I would update you ladies! At my ultrasound today my placenta has moved from 1.2 cm away to 8 cm away from my cervix! So a big move in just 4 weeks. Good luck and it seems to be true that they almost always move up.
