Hi there,

My hubby has just got his :spermy: test results back and all was fine except the morphology (his was 3% when the norm is 4%).

I have been doing some research on the ideal frequency of :sex: with low morphology but ended up more confused!

Does anyone know whether it is better to BD every day around ovulation or every other day in these circumstances?

:flower:

My dh has 3% morph, I wouldn't worry about how much you bd as morphology isnt everything. As long as there's a good count and motility thats the main thing
I'd just go for it and bd as often as you like.
I'm hoping we've caught this cycle as ive had spotting for the last few days and I never spot before af.

Thanks Rachy. Fingers crossed for you - spotting sounds like a good sign :dust:

I just got my husband's sperm analysis results today....his morphology was also 3%! Have you heard any other recommendations?? The nurse wants to repeat the analysis next week.

Hi TTC - sorry we didn't get any recommendations. In fact the doctors were really unhelpful. They weren't even going to give us the results and just said to go back in three months in a voicemail message!. My husband rang back and insisted on speaking to a doctor who gave him a bit more details but still not helpful and no suggestion on how to improve.

I feel like this needs to be a whole pinned thread on its own.

Our urologist told DH to take L-Carnitine 500 mg 3x daily and a multi-vitamin with Folic Acid. There are other things that we are trying but that was per the doctor.

Also he told us to only give into Amore every other day during my fertile cycle. If you do it every day, you are depleting his sperm (healthy or not) so the closer you are to O the less is in his ejaculate. He did say try to wait no longer than every other day too though because sperm doesn't live as long in him as it does us and the more you jam in there the higher the chance that they get harmed.

Oh and on the L-Carnitine, he said to make sure you get domestic, nothing from China. I am not really sure on why but my Hubby said that he was VERY adamant about it.

My hubby and I have been TTC for a little over a year now. I'm 33 and he is 35 yo. I was recently tested and every thing is normal except for my prolactin is slightly elevated which my ob/gyn believes is a false high and would like to repeat the test. On monday, my hubby got his semen analysis results back and his morphology is 3%. My ob/gyn called me with the results and pretty much said she didn't want to waste our time and recommended we got to a fertility specialist. Stated in his recommendation to her he was pushing for ICSI/IVF. I was very sad and confused but decided to do my own research to determine our best options. We really don't want to go the IUI/IVF route and would like to be able to concieve naturally. I have read in several different places recommendations of lifestyle changes, fertility supplements, ect. I'm reaching out for any advise from those who have experienced the same problems. It's been a very sad week for us because we thought everything was ok but I guess we were wrong. Just to add nothing else was wrong with his semen analysis other than morphology. His counts are very high and motility is good.

Every analysis will be different. We have issues with antisperm antibodies due to dh's vr but I can tell you the results of our 3 sa's just to give you an idea.

Analysis 1: Volume: 4.24ml.
Count: 26.2m/ml.
Motility: 15% rapid linear, 32% slow progressive, total 47%.
Morphology: 6%

Analysis 2: Volume: 4.1ml.
Count: 15m/ml.
Motility: 32 % rapid linear, 11% slow progressive, total 43%.
Morphology: 3%

Analysis 3: Volume: 4.5ml.
Count: 32m/ml.
Motility: 28% rapid linear, 20% slow progressive, total 48%.
Morphology: 9%.

We had the last sa done last week so as you can see, it can change. Our second sa was terrible so I decided to scrap the multivitamins and start him on 1000mg vit c, 400iu vit e, 30mg zinc and 1200mg tribulus daily. He also only had cool showers and wore loose underwear.

I have seen many success stories of men with just 1% conceiving, it just takes a little longer. I don't think you should be pushed into icsi yet. I would consider repeating the sa in 3 months before even considering it.

Thank you rachy28 for giving me some insight. I can really see the difference between the 3 sa. Here is what we got so far.

Volume: 3ml
Count: 60 million/ml
Total Motility: 47%
Progressive Motility: 33%
Morphology: 3%

I've been doing some research on Dr. Google and was going to try him on fertilaid with acetyl l-carnitine to start. We feel more comfortable changing our diet, cutting down on the alcohol, and adding the vitamins at this point. We both really felt hopeless on Monday because we wanted to believe nothing was wrong. I thought the idea of jumping into icsi/ivf was crazy without looking at other options. I think it's a great idea to recheck and 3 months. Good luck on your journey:)

Thanks, good luck to you also.
I just wanted to point out that the only reason we haven't concieved is because dh has severe antisperm antibodies and not because of his sperm parameters. He has alot of agglutination because of AsAb's.
Vit c will definitely help with motility
3% morph of 180 million is still just over 5 million normally formed sperm :)

My husband had his vasectomy after almost 25 year we were able to have it reversed. His urologist said that the doctor who did the reversal needed to be in medical journals because he has never seen a reversal more than 5 years out with numbers like his. We are only 17 months out from the reversal with no BFP yet, but we are still hopeful. Like I have said the numbers all together are what you need to look at. My husband has a lower count and lower morphology, but he produces almost 2.5 times the normal amount of semen per ejaculate.

Carrie, have you had a sperm Mar test done. We are 16 months since vr with no bfp. We knew dh had agglutination and suspected antibodies so requested they be checked. As u can see in my signature his levels are quite severe. We were given a 1-5% chance of natural pregnancy. I just think if you still haven't concieved then maybe there's another issue there. I know someone who had a total count of just 4 million with just 25% motility & 4% morph and concieved just 16 weeks after vr :)

No, with his being so far out (25 years) when we got the reversal, we were told it may take up to 5 years for his counts to stabilize. We were told by the lab that they give us low hopes for natural conception but our urologist said that he thought with a little more time we would have no problem. It will take time for us, we just have to make sure that he is doing everything that he can to keep what he makes healthy.
