Hi ladies, I haven't really posted on this forum since my little girl was born. She's 7 weeks old now. We've been breastfeeding since she was born and began to introduce a bottle or two a day since she was 3 weeks old and carry on with breast too. This was at the recommendation of my HV as I am going back to university soon and she will be combi fed. All was well but recently she has been suffering badly when breast feeding in the morning. She will feed a little then refuse to feed any more, arches her back and straightens her legs and screams blue murder. It's horrible to watch as she's still rooting and stuffing her fists and demanding to be fed. After a while she will settle, she usually falls asleep then feeds normally when she wakes. It's getting to be really stressful. Occasionally it will happen at other times of day but generally it is about five mins into her first feed of the day.

I spoke to my HV about it and she said she thought it was low supply. As I have been feeding one formula bottle a day I thought it could be so have began to increase my supply with extra pumping etc. My boobs are leaking now and definitely have enough milk but it's still happening. So my HV now thinks it's fast let down, which doesn't make sense as she begins to feed normally. I'm getting really stressed about it :( someone mentioned it could be silent reflux? I have no experience with this and my HV dismissed the idea. I'm thinking of visiting my GP. Her weight gain is good and she otherwise is a happy, content baby. Can anyone help?

The first feed of the morning is usually when your breasts are fullest, so it's sounds to me like she was taking is lots in one go and possibly air at the same time giving her tummy pain. Babies can confuse wind pain with hunger so she may act hungry.

I would have thought if she was getting frustrated with slow letdown/low supply, then switching her to the other breast would calm her and she'd feed again. If she is refusing to latch, I'd guess she has some tummy pain.
