For the last 2 days and nights my baby boy has been very unsettled, not napping or sleeping well and generally unhappy. He has had very flushed cheeks so I thought it was just teething but last night he suddenly started uncontrollably screaming like he was in pain, my oh got him to calm down a little and he eventually fell asleep although he was still moaning in his sleep, he then kept waking up with his eyes closed and screaming again. I gave him some baby nurofen (i thought it might take gum pain away better than calpol) and teetha powder and took his temp. It was 34 and another reading was 34.4. It was an underarm therm so I know to prob add a further degree but that's still too cold right. His neck also felt quite cool but his cheeks were still flushed. He was dressed appropriately and in the bed with us. I checked our temps with it and they were fine at nearly 36. We phoned NHS direct but they didn't call back, oh realised this morning that he had given the wrong number. After a fretful night he is right as rain this morning. Napped for 3 hours and temp was back up to 35.6. Anyone have any ideas on this? He was fine in all other ways, no colds, cough etc and he was feeding fine.

I don't know what the effects of too low a temp could be, but I'd phone your GP or NHS direct to ask if it happens again. When Darragh was born, his temperature was low and they made him stay wrapped up like he was outside and lie on a heat pad for a few days until it stabilised, so I guess it must mean it's a problem.
I only just realised when I read your post that in my PP fuzz, I never actually asked what a low temp meant in regards to LO's health!

My daughter had a low temperature once, we went to the doctor who said that is also a sign of fighting an infection. Hers was around the 34 mark x

Thanks ladies, I guess he must have had a bug as he has been fine today, napped 3 times and went to bed very easily tonight. It's the worst thing invthexworld to hear your baby scream like that! Just glad he's better now.
