Skylar is below the 0.4th percentile but is following her own curve with an average 1oz a day gain. She's being weighed weekly at the moment by my HV and she looked like she wouldn't need weekly visits anymore. But Fridays weigh in showed only a gain of 1/2 an oz, there hadn't been any change in feeds, in fact she may have had a little more. The dietician says aim for 400 to 550ML, we usually do 440 to 600 a day. I don't know what's gone wrong but I'm so worried.

After being in NICU for 11weeks I've come home obsessed with numbers and weight gain. The HV doesn't seem worried, but I can't help feel very anxious.

Did any of you ladies have any weeks with very little or no gain this far down the line? She's 20w, 10w adjusted. Came home 7th September (5 days after due date) at 4lb 13oz, and weighed in at 7lb 12oz on Friday. I had IUGR plus she had medical NEC which set her weight gain back a bit.

Weight gain for all children does slow down as they get older. Usually it ties in with them getting more active. The last few weeks we have noticed DD moves around much more on the floor and puts a lot of effort into sitting up, and as a result her weight gain has slowed right down. BUT she is still following her line perfectly so its at an age where it is expected to happen. As long as you are still on your lines and thr HV doenst seem concerned I wouldn't worry too much.

Even with DS we noticed sometimes his weight would slow down for a while then he would take a very quick growth spurt and settle back down again. If it becomes a long term pattern it might be worth looking into but try not to worry about it too much yet

DS left the hospital one week after his due date weighing 8lbs 6ozs. 5 days later at his first doctor's appointment he weighed 8lbs 11ozs. Which was great! That was a gain of about an ounce a day. However, 9 days later was his next appointment and he only weighed 8lbs 15ozs, so he had only gained less than 1/2 an ounce a day. AND he was eating a lot more that week too!! But, about 9 days later at his next appointment, he came in weighing 9lbs 11ozs, so he gained about one pound in that same amount of time! After that his doctor didn't want to see him for another month and a half. I think you just have to trust your instinct and know that babies follow their own growth curve (ESPECIALLY preemies!!)

My daughter was a slow gainer. She was born 2lbs 2oz and at 14 months, she's only 18 pounds. Her doctor always seemed a little concerned but said she gained the minimum amount she should be gaining and made us go weekly and then bi-weekly until she was 8 months old. We switched pediatricians when we moved and the new one said yep she's doing great, following her own curve, see you in 3 months.

My daughter gained a lot faster once we started solids and fully on formula after I dried up when she was around 6 months.

Well she had her 6week check up on Friday and she's up to 8lb 2.5oz. Her umbilical hernia is almost gone and is measuring on the 9th centile for head & height and 2nd for weight. To us that's absolutely fan-bloody-tastic !

True to form, she farted her way through the exam and had a poo leaky nappy which was all over the exam table due to DH thinking she was big enough for size 2 pampers :dohh:

Thats fantastic news! my son wasnt a preemie but i did have IUGR and he has struggled with weight gain since birth (DS1). I know what its like having to obsess over numbers and centiles. ds1 is currently on the 0.4th centile and was 26lb 3oz at his weigh in 4 weeks ago. x

So I was watching a show where two moms were comparing their babies' weights. One had a 22-month old and the other had a 3-month old. Both full-term, healthy babies. The 3-month old weighed 16lbs and the 22-month old weighed 19lbs. Nobody seemed the least bit worried. Goes to show you that babies do follow their own curve.

At my DS's last weight check he weighed 10lbs 11ozs, and he's about 8 weeks adjusted age. It's in the 50th percentile but I'm not too worried!

Thanks Sunnylove. You're wee boy sounds like he's coming on in leaps & bounds!

Skylar had another gain. HV isn't worried so I'm trying not to. She's just going to be a bit smaller just now for her age, but she's a happy wee baby so I'll just have to try not to worry so much
