Is there anyone out there ttc who has a luteal phase consistently of 12 days or less who's been off bcp 12 months or more?

My luteal phase is normally 11 days but sometimes 10 and once 12. I've been off pill since January 09 so it's not due to that.

Do those with shorter luteal phases need to implant earlier due to af arriving sooner? I mean I know implantation normally happens around day 8 so for people with a normal 14 day cycle that's plenty of time to start releasing hgc. I also know that the later you implant - the closer to af- the more likely you are to miscarry. Anyone want to offer insight? Or share their stories?

Hi stargirl,

my lp is 12 days most months. I have been off bcp for 2 years now.

I have a 28/29 day cycle and ov approx cd 16/17.

I worry that this is affecting our ttc chances, although from research unless it is below 10 it shouldn't really cause any issues.

Would love to have a longer lp, it used to be longer however I notice since taking pregnacare preconception vitam it has reduced, maybe that is a coincidence.
Who knows, I wish I had answers.

Yeah I've read that too... but I'm just not convinced. Mine hasn't been affected by pregnacare preconception. I started that in July 2009 and luteal phase has been roughly the same since then. Have you ever had a bfp? How long have you been trying to conceive? (If you don't mind me asking).

Mine is 12 days, had one 11 day, and Ive had three bfps in 5 cycles, Im pretty sure I implanted with each one around 6dpo, had a small dip plus little cramps started around that day. The bad news is Ive had three mcs, but Im nearly 42 so that could be playing a part in that and am currently being investigated for a cause. Ive alse had two totally normal pregnances previous to ttc this time round, been on bc for 10 years straight prior to this and about 8 years before I had my two girls.

Hey gals! I just came off of bcp and haven't had a period yet (not due for one yet either, so not entirely worried as I'm pretty sure I ovulated last week), so I have been monitoring my LP quite a bit. I'm no expert but I wanted to share with you what I have heard. Most doctors like women to have LP's of 12 days or more; 10 is considered 'normal' but most doctors want them to be longer for implantation purposes.
You should check out a thread that's ongoing on Vitamin B6 and its effects on luteal phases. There are other treatments that a doctor might prescribe also (such as Clomid).
Hope this helps!

Thanks aragornlover8. I've seen that thread but I decided not to take extra vitamin b6. I already take the recommended limit and don't want to take anymore. I had a bad experience with agnus castus and I'm not going to experiment with my body again! I've read that your luteal phase is a reflection of what happens in the follicular phase, so if something not right there it affects luteal phase. This could be why it 'tends' to be people with longer cycles and late ovulation that have shorter luteal phase. I ovulate late every cycle so this 'could' be the reason for my shorter luteal phase.

Thanks WannaB. Sorry for your losses. Can I ask if these were chemical pregnancies or not? I test every month but always bfn. I kind of want to know if I have chemical pregnancies or just don't conceive at all so I've bought the more sensitive hpts this cycle. Will you let me know if you discover the cause of your shorter luteal phase?

Mine were all confirmed with bloods after +hpts. My FS says my luteal phase is fine, he said 10 and over wasnt a problem, the mcs could be due to my age or any number of other things, may find out or might not! Im on progesterone after O day now and daily aspirin as preventative measures.

Ive never had a bfp :( we have been ttc since July last year. No chemicals, now saying that I never test early bar one month, too many disappointed people here have put me off testing early so i always wait until my due date or af.
I am like you - I dont want to start messing with my body either, unless recommended by my GP.

I test early because I want to know if I have a problem conceiving or a problem sticking! If you see what I mean? Thanks for all the replies on this post - I really appreciate them!

Sorry to drag up an old thread but I have been looking for stuff relating to LP's of 12 days and this popped up.

For the past three cycles since our mmc I have had Luteal Phases of 12 days and I am concerned that this will be hindering our chances of getting pregnant again. At 35 I am getting concerned about my age too and don't know if I should go to the doctor and explain my worries about my LP or if I should try taking extra B Vitamins. I'm slowly working my way through that thread but with 101 pages to catch up on I think it may take a while.

Have any of you voiced your concerns over your LP with your doctor?

A 12 day lp is fine, I have one too and my FS says there is nothing wrong with the length, I get pregnant quite easily having a 12 dayer and Im nearly 42.

I have only had a 12 day luteal phase once. I normally have 10-11 day luteal phase. This cycle (4th cycle) I got pregnant. I think I implanted 9dpo which I thought would be too late for my luteal phase. Everything has been fine so far, but very early days for me. I chose not to take any supplements as I already have the limit of b vitamins in my preconception tablet, and didn't want to take any more than that.
