so come on then ladies, i dont think im on my own with the old magpie rhyme, one for sorrow, 2 for joy, 3 for a girl, 4 for a boy.

whats your prediction.

when i had my bfp, 2 days later i was walking at the lake and i seen 4 magpies!! xxxx

if im alone please feel free to point and laugh at me!!!! :haha:

Hi Sophie, no you're not alone ;) Once I got my bfp I said to my hubby that the next set of 3/4 magpies we see will be the gender of our baby. The next time we were out I saw 3. And usually I normally see the dreaded 1 or 2. So I took it as a sign :) Wonder if our feathered friends will prove to be right ;)

aww see thats why im sooo convinced its a boy!! lol we should revivie this thread when we have our gender scnas or babiea and see if they were right! xxx

yes, we must report back when we find out. I want to find out the sex. This is our 2nd and we have a boy. My husband doesn't want to, so I'll see if I can change his mind over the next weeks :)

btw hun u had you bfp on my daughters birthday xxx

They're these black and white brids - part of the crow family that have this mad squack and are very common in Ireland, and I am guessing the UK too. They are known to like shiny things. There is a superstion that goes:
1 for sorrow
2 for joy
3 for a girl
4 for a boy
6 for silver
7 for gold
8 for a secret never to be told.

If I see one magpie you can wave at it to get rid of the bad luck, or we used to bless ourselves.
All sounds a bit weird, but it's just a fun superstition :angelnot:

Oh wow! Now I know...learned somethin new hehe.

Pretty interesting. I guess we don't have em here, or I just never see them. I'll be hunting for 4 of em then :haha:

He he, funny thing is when the piccie of the magpie came up, I soluted it, cant help instinct lol. Hate it when I see one

Yeah maybe they don't have them in south africa? Maybe you can try with regular crows ;)
Love your cracker signature by the way. Made me think of a box of crackers sitting in my press with only one eaten from it. My husband likes to keep offering me them when I'm particularly ill!

i seen 1 for 3 days running on my way to work but hope that was more to do with my sorrow so far this year but then yesterday...at lunch...looked out of the window and there was 4 magpies shortly joined by another 1.

IN the rhyme above it doesnt say what 5 is???

Im convince this LO is a boy but will see x

lol i aslways salute them, or its bad luck! lmao, but my OH shouts at me cos its annoying, and yeah there pretty common her too xxx

YES! Omg, it drives me crazy. Mother-in-law and everyone else under the sun has so many potions and super duper remedies for my morning sickness. The thought of any of it makes my stomach turn.

i can never remember passed 4 lol

anything more than one does me fine. I always say 'good morning mister Magpie' and 'good morning missis Magpie' if there are 2!!!

crazy i know lol

also loving the crakcers picture although they were my saviour when i was pregnant with LO all i could stomache! xx

Dear lord, there were six or seven outside this morning having a breakfast of hot cross buns on my lawn
