It's been getting to me a lot this week, I am not a pushy parent in the slightest and have always been pretty laid back but the level of concern my health visitor showed towards Lennon's development has me upset and stressed. I'm also seeing babies younger doing so much and I feel like such a failure.
-He crawled at 7 month, cruising and pulling himself up from 9 month.
-Took a few steps before his first birthday, he will take a few steps if you encourage him into your arms but mostly runs holding onto things.
-Doesn't even babble much, usually makes a brrrr kind of noise, but nothing that resembles words. He has said mam and nana before and in context but nothing since and this was months ago.

He will clap with two objects in his hands but not on cue, he won't wave and won't point. He will come over with his mouth open for a kiss and a cuddle, laughs alot and understands things such as tickling my feet makes me laugh so he loves doing it.

I'm really panicking encase there is something wrong, my HV is coming out on the 15th but I'm so worried in the meantime. I guess I'm asking for stories of similar situations etc?

Thanks in advance.

It all sounds totally normal to me? Which part exactly is she worried about? He's taking steps, he understands things you say, he does things which he knows gets a response, he has said words in context...I don't think you have anything to worry about. Things like waving, they're just specific examples of relevant actions that show interaction and so on- I mean if your lo can tickle your feet, can understand about giving a kiss and a cuddle, and laughs at unusual stuff/funny stuff/noises and so on/things he sees, then I don't think you need to worry that he doesn't wave in particular.

Definitely think your LO seems to be doing just fine so I would continue being relaxed about it :-) xx

Thank you. I know a lot of kids younger are speaking a lot more but I thought some babies are just more independent etc. I think it's alot of focus on autism awareness these days but one year old seems very young to judge imo.

I read to him, talk to him, sing to him, tell him what I'm doing and respond to his noises, feeling pretty useless :(

sounds completely normal to me lol. as PP said. totally normal. i wouldnt worry. you're doing absolutely everything right :)

tbh it sounds normal to me too- I hate to even say "normal" but for sure average and I don't really see a need for concern. Plenty of kids don't walk alone till well after 12mos- my LO was 12mos before she took her first un-aided steps and full on walking at 13mos. But my niece was older and plenty of kids are. As for talking- he's 12mos, I wouldn't worry much unless he's still well behind closer to 2-3yrs... I have friends who's LO's didn't talk much till closer to 3yrs- I know my LO is a bit behind talking too, but making progress and she really didn't say much of anything at 12mos other than babble-- but she is just starting to string 2-3words together-- still not a ton of words, but progress is great! All kids vary hun- I know it's easy to say don't compare, tougher in reality- but no kid is really the same. Try not to stress- you know your LO best and I think you'd know if there was really something to worry about. :hugs:

I read your post about 10 times and there is absolutely nothing in there that would cause any concern at all to me!

My daughter wasn't much of a talker then around 16mobths her language took off and now she is way ahead of her peers in language. You never know its still so early. If you want to check things out just to make sure you could have his hearing checked. My dd got tubes in her ears at 14 months and I think that was part of the reason her speech wasn't as good as it should be even though she understood directions etc

Sounds perfectly fine to me :D Walking before 12mths is actually on the early side, I think around 14mths is normal (though I've seen a few start around 16mths). It is also common for babies to develop their speech or their movement first and less common for both aspects to develop at the same rate. The first walker in our mother's group (at 11mths) still doesn't talk very much (at 20mths).

If that's cause for concern my lo is beyond help!! He crawled at 10.5 months pulled to stand and cruise 13 months and that's as far as we got. He says hiya and waves but that's it. He won't point at stuff and deff couldn't understand tickling me. He doesn't like kisses and cuddles either

He is only a year old! Yeesh... Some HVs are such alarmists. I think he sounds pretty normal too. Half the kids I know didn't walk until 15-16 months. Some aren't walking still at 18 months. My son certainly didn't pont or wave at 12 months. He understood a LOT of things though and would do things like fetch my shoes or put teddy in the box if you asked him. He did babble loads but definitely favoured certain sounds - maybe your son says "brrrrrr" because he really enjoys it?? My son used to say "lurgi durgi" all day lol. He also went through a phase when he only made trilly bird noises. He found it hilarious. I really wouldn't let this HV shake you up too much! You're doing all the right things with your son. It's cute he tickles your feet :D Don't feel like a failure.

Thanks guys. It's just with all this awareness around autism etc now I do worry. He is happy to play alone for long periods of time which is worrying but I do think he's easily amused. I suppose I'll know more on the 15th. Thanks for your support.

Tbh I'm genuinely not sure why you are worried? Is ur ticker correct, your LO is only 12 months old?
