I can't afford a Baa Baa blind and want something I can use when we're away, too - any tips? I have ordered some blackout fabric from ebay but should I then order some suction hooks? Elasticate the edges? Any tips?

I don't intend to use it all the time but places like my mum's, where she has sheer white cotton curtains, she takes ages to go to sleep and wakes up very early (well, even earlier than usual!)

When we're at my moms we just hang thicker darker colored blankets up over her curtain rods. Its worked well for us! We found that thinner or lighter colored blankets were still letting light in. Then when we leave we just take them down til next visit!

I tried that but her curtain poles are flimsy! Thanks, though.

I will watch this...we need to do something with LO's bling. but can't hang something over it as will pull it down lol

get some sticky velcro and use that, il try and find the company that tell you how to make them

just buy blackout material or blackout curtain lining and cut to size

We used sticky velcro and blue tac. Doesn't last long but would be perfect if you're just there for a few days.

I've used masking tape to stick black bin bags over windows before! lol - it's may not look too good, but works a treat and comes off easily.

How about those net curtain rails that sort of work on a spring system?

I don't know how to explain properly ... they are sort of two poles/tubes, with one slightly smaller than the other so that it fits inside the larger one.

Then there is a spring inside that, when compressed, 'pushes' the tubes apart so that it fits inside a window space (there are rubber 'stops' on either end to give grip)

I'm really not explaining this well - let me see if I can find a picture of what I mean :dohh:

Found them :D https://www.nets2go.co.uk/Accessories/

Velcro all the way around the blind and the window frame. On the window, put the velcro at the outside edge of the frame, rather than the glass, as it will block the light better. Another handy hint is, don't cut off any excess fabric, as you may take it somewhere with bigger windows!

Ours has lasted for months:thumbup:

We bought the baa baa blind which has suction cups and these work a treat, so maybe get some suction cups that way you can use in anywhere. We bought one and cut it in two as our LO's windows are only small, but then we can use them together if we travel anywhere! xx

I know this was some time ago i was just wondering how you got on as i am looking to make some black out blinds for the summer and am torn between suction cups and the spring loaded tension rods.
