Is it safe to have one when you are pregnant?

My neck and shoulders are so sore and stiff lately. My partner is not very good at giving massages, is it safe to have a professional one?

I'll be getting a prenatal massage from a professional. It's a special massage for mommy to bes. One of my pregnant friends got one once a month than every 2 weeks in her 3rd tri.

You definitely can, just as long as the masseuse/masseur has experience with pregnant woman. There are specific pressure points you need to avoid.

Thanks ladies. Had a quick check online for my area, there's doesn't appear to be many places. I'll gave to gave a ring around. :)

I've been having a 'Mums to be' massage every two weeks since 12 weeks. Its wonderful! They have a special chair which you lean forward into. I've found my shoulders and neck ache a lot which is apparently due to using my arms a lot more to pull myself up etc. Its so relaxing to have the pain eased away! I'll keep going as long as its comfortable to. Hope you find somewhere that can help.

Yes you can have a massage done. I would try to find one who knows how to massage someone who is pregnant, but the main point to not massage is around the ankle bone.

I am hoping to find someone around here. With my last pregnancy, the clinic I went to allowed you to have 2 prenatal massages to be used at anytime up to 6 weeks postpartum. I enjoyed them so much, especially the farther along I was. I really want to have one now because my legs and feet hurt so much. I'm on my feet for long periods of time during the day.

I never new that. I've messages a lady in my area and I'm waiting for her to get back to me so we can discuss what I may need. I just want my neck and shoulders doing sooooo bad!!

Thanks for all the comments ladies :)

interesting, never heard of the pressure points to avoid.
but yes, I've had massages pregnant. most spa's have a prenatal massage therapy!

Does anyone know if you need a special prenatal massage even early in first tri? I tried googling and couldn't find a clear answer.

Where I read it at was in "what to expect when expecting" and it actually suggests not to have a massage during the 1st tri because it can trigger dizziness and add to morning sickness early on.

I didn't book in for my first massage until after the 12 week scan however the lady who does mine said she wouldn't have seen me before that anyway. I'm not sure why but presumably for the reasons mentioned above. x
