Hi lovelies! :flower:

So, LO and I are just about 4 months in with ebfing. She was 5 weeks early, born at 6lb 2 oz, and dropped to 5lb 6oz at her lowest weight. At her 1 month appt she was 7lb 6oz and at her 2 month appt she was 9lb 6oz, so 2lb in 1 month.

She has her 4 month appt coming up on Monday and I am bricking it. She has been very petite since she was born, but I can definitely tell that she is growing. She is still in 0-3 month clothing but it is fitting 'perfect' right now and she is about to be too long for them. Having plenty of wet diapers and has a huge dirty diaper every 2-3 days, and then usually will do two days in a row and then skip a day or two again. She is a lean baby but does have little wrist rolls and rolls on her thighs, and little chubby cheeks.

I pump at work and she gets 10.5-12 oz a day (3 3.5-4 oz bottles) from that while at MILs house. I am pumping (and struggling) a ton just for that amount while I am at work, and whenever I manage to squeeze in a session at home between nursings. I need to pump one side in the morning to have enough for her daily bottles and she has the other, and I'm fairly full in the morning. Then she has 3 bottles during the day (8.5 hours) then I nurse as soon as I get her home. She will nurse 1-2 more times before bed, and has one waking each night for a feed, so she is getting 7-8 nursings a day. I have tried fenugreek/blessed thistle and it made a small increase in my pumping output but not more than .5-1 oz a day and I've been taking it many weeks now (3 caps of each 3x day). I don't think I respond to the pump very well because I can pump forever and if I put her to the breast right after I have another let down 90% of the time. After each feed she seems totally satisfied and happy in herself, and isn't a fussy baby at all - very alert, smiles and coos a lot, takes good naps, just starting rolling from belly to back, etc,

Anyhow, I have been so concerned about her gaining weight I went and got a baby scale, mainly because I didn't want to have a huge shock at the ped office. I weighed her yesterday and she was 12 lb 4 oz, so she's gained just about 3 lbs in 2 months. Some places I am reading that 1-2 lbs a month is normal for bf'd babies, but it seems she is falling centiles on the growth charts, both regular and bfing charts? I am using her adjusted age too, which is a month earlier than her actual age. My ped seems to be somewhat hung up on weight gain and already had me scared when she was first born, and suggested supplementing which I refused. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my kids' ped, but he does seem to get hung up on weight. When my son was born he was the same, but being a scared FTM and DS being 5 weeks early as well, when he lost more than 10% birthweight they had me supplement with high calorie preemie formula starting at a week old, and we all know what happened there :dohh: !! He gained weight VERY rapidly on the special formula so I have no idea what to expect with ebfing and weight gain this time around!

I guess the point of my ramble is to get you girls' take on her weight gain and if you think she is doing ok? Her appt is Monday and I know that since she didn't gain the '2 lbs a month' that the peds office seems to like that I will probably end up defending ebfing which I don't want to have to do... really regardless of what they say I am planning on keeping up with just ebfing - unless she starts failing to thrive and weight gain becomes a serious issue. The centiles thing has me nervous too :nope: I have been thinking we've been doing good but when the scale only said 12lb 4oz my heart broke a little.

Help!

She sounds like she is doing great to me - she wouldn't sleep well at night if she was starving hungry, so she is obviously getting enough in to her. Girls are always more petite, and considering in the UK they only expect them to have doubled their birthweight by 6 months, she is doing extremely well as she has already done that x

Sounds great to me! As long as she's gaining and has plenty of wet and poppy diapers you're fine. Like adults, babies come in different sizes. Be firm with your pedi

My little man was 6lb 2oz at birth and now weight 13lb at nearly 5 months. The health visitor says he is doing great and thriving on breast milk. It sounds like your LO is doing really well xx

Thanks for the replies ladies. Feeling much better now! Drs appts always make me so anxious and I hate the self doubt but I can't shake it very easily! I know in my heart she is fine so I'll just have to stick to my guns at the ped office.

My baby sounds just the same as yours except born on time. she was 8lb7 when born but since then always petite & lean. 2 weeks ago she was still only 11lb4. Haven:-'t had her weighed this week (18wks) but she is still in 0-3m clothes. she is definitely growing but she just longer. They have never been concerned at clinic because she has always maintained her weight on same centile curve. x

My baby was in the 90th percentile when born and at 8 months is now in the 3rd. My doctor was worried but I took him to the International Breastfeeding Centre where you see a lactation consultant and a pediatrician and they weren't worried. He is getting longer and is lean but is very healthy and happy. So try not to worry about the charts too much.

You can up your fenugreek to 4 3x per day and even more I was told. Also eat lots of oats. Good luck!

Well girls we had our appt today... and dr said she was perfect! I was literally dying of anxiety all day (appt was at 5pm) but everything went great :dohh: I felt like such a twat after the dr said she was doing so well! Just goes to show I should have trust in my BnB ladies hm?

Thank you all for your words of encouragement it meant so much and managed to keep me at least half sane today! :flower:

Aw that's fantastic news xx
