Maternity bras

Hi again all.
I was reading that its best to get maternity/soft non wired bras for the whole of your pregnancy because underwired bras may damage the shape/growing of your boobs which could affect breastfeeding.
Was just wondering if i should take this with a pinch of salt as my wired bras are really comfy and im only a B.
Maybe this is just in the later stages and while breastfeeding?
whats everyone else doing?
There is so much info out there and its hard deciphering through the really cautious just in case stuff and the medically proven facts.

Even if underwired bras cause no damage, I found them very uncomfortable in the later stages of pregnancy. I'm also only a B. Wearing underwires would be particularly uncomfortable when your boobs start getting bigger, and don't even THINK about wearing them when your milk comes in OUCH. I bought a few non-wired bras and sports bras from asda (the ones in the packets) for about £4 each. I figure I won't be wearing them long so needn't fork out for proper maternity bras seeing as they're basically the same thing. All the maternity bras I found were £16-£20 each. I'd rather buy the £4 ones and splash out on some nice underwear when I can wear my beloved underwireds. x

Your breast sizes change during pregnancy and underwired bra's can be extremely unconfortable, mine were £22 from mothercare and are fantastic, comfortable and practical as you can also sleep in them which helps aswell. I never regretted buying them

I moved to live on a silly island called the isle of wight though and get this.....they dont have an ASDA!!!!
I think the next time i visit my mum on the mainland ill have a look see though.

Thanks, he grows way too fast! They might do cheaper bras at some other supermarkets too, I'm not sure.. I bought them originally because I couldn't find any maternity bras small enough to fit me I tried some on in the department stores and got measured, and they were all massive, even with pregnancy size - they might have fit me when my milk came in, but tbh I found my asda ones good enough for me. x

I have large breasts (DD) and for my first I used underwire exclusively. I really thought they were more comfortable. I just bought a cheapy maternity/nursing bra at a discount store (not underwire) and it's fairly comfy too, though a tad too big around (should have stuck with my normal sz 34), my mother advised me to buy a 38... WAY too big so I will get another bra that fits better and use this one for sleeping in.

I plan on BF so to have 2 or three nice pretty comfy nursing/maternity bras is essential and I don't mind spending a little more for them.

I have to say, maternity fashion has come a LONG way in 10 years. I remember the parachute maternity panties and the really awful maternity bras...

I still wear some of my old underwired bras on the last hook but they tend to itch and dig in. The maternity ones are most definatly more comfortable. You may not think so but when you try them you'll be suprised at the difference.

You could try taking the wires out of some of your old bras.

I think when I'm closer to having my baby I will stay in breastfeeding bra's.

i have brought some maternity bras from mothercare in the sale and they are so comfy and i also brought some £4 sport bra ones from asda to sleep in as im a dd but already expanded to an e xx

hiya im also only a B cup and im still wearing underwires every day and they dont bother me at the mo just need to put them on nxt hook down now, was thinking of buying a maternity one tho closer to due date as thought may be easier for breast feeding xxx

Personally, I would steer clear of underwire bras as the reasoning behind it all makes sense. But I never opted for maternity bras either, I went with very supportive and comfy Sports bras! x

Underwire bra's can damage the milk ducts in your breasts which is why health professions say to wear a comfortable maternity or non-underwired bra's, sports top

I have large breasts (E when not pregnant!), and went bra shopping a few weeks ago. I decided, given how expensive good bras are, to just invest in a couple of nursing bras without underwire. They are really supportive and pretty comfortable--although sometimes the band can dig in a bit to my rib cage. Overall, though, I felt good about just going straight for nursing bras instead of maternity ones that I won't be able to use once the baby arrives and I turn into a milk bar.

Oh yeah, and the brand I bought was 'Anita', which is a European brand.

i got a regular non wired cross your heart type bra. think it was by playtex. or someone. Not maternity, justa grown up lady bra, as I call it!

Anyway it's the best thing I ever bought. about £20, but so so comfy! Really, it's like a slipper of the bra world. My underwired ones just dont fit, and if I can squeeze in they're uncomfy. Also I bounce around all over the sow with those on - even walking down my corridor at work is embarassing, and I'm only a C!

I only bought one so far - considering the price and I might grow again soon, but its worth it. I have to just wash and dry it quickly!!

Oh it's the best thing.

Thankyou all for the advice, im bracing myself to get some now as really want to breast feed and dont want any complications with that
Just have to find somewhere on the island that has a decent selection and my size now...........
