Apparently they expect pregnant women to be nudists, because... I can't find any maternity clothes, lol!

Wal-Mart here doesn't carry any, Thyme and Motherhood are WAY too expensive ($40 for shirts, $70 for pants...wtf! and even the sales aren't much better), and I can't find any other stores... I also need a swimsuit for my prenatal workout class and I can't find one at any of the travel/swimwear stores...

Am I the only one with this problem??

And I tried Kijiji but people want way too much for used clothes (like $20 for a ragged looking shirt, or they want to sell it all in bulk like a box for $150).

Does anyone know where to find affordable maternity clothes in Canada, even Ontario? :) I have tried just buying bigger sized regular clothes but they just fall down or are too long or I look like a giant cow in a tent (I already feel like one anyway).

I can't shop online either. :(

ugh.... i know. all the cheap places around that used to have maternity sections walmart, zellers, old navy, have recently stopped carrying....
there are some walmarts that do carry maybe u could call around and take a little road trip.

there's specialty places around but theyre ridiculously priced. the toys r us babys r us has a section but its a bit pricey as well.

i was told to try second hand stores like value village and once upon a child, havnt gotten around to it yet.

i currently have 2 proper maternity tops a one pant that was a gift, and i have some yoga pants and baggy shirts i can wear.

as for your swimsuit need have you tried a two piece tankini style? i have one that still fits comfortably and im at 24 weeks now. i got it at winners a few summers ago. the top part is short so it sits above my bump and the bottoms are little shorts.

Some Old Navy's in Ontario still carry maternity clothes. The prices are not too bad either. If you are tall (like me), I do not recommend the pants though. I went down to Toronto in August/September and the Old Navy still had the maternity line. If you check the website it will tell you which stores still have maternity. I am 6 feet and had no choice but to spend the $60 a pair at Motherhood for their tall sizes. I bought them at a buy 1 get one deal To be honest, out of all of my clothes, I loved them the most.

Where is Ontario do you live? I live just on the border and know that in the USA there are stores with more reasonable prices such as Target. I know the Old Navy in my area also still has maternity. Also keep your eye on Thyme. I got my clothes from here but waited until they had a sale (you have to watch as you mentioned some sales aren't that great) but I hit a good one and it wasn't too bad.

Also are you on FB? In my area they have a "mother swap site" where women sell clothes

daisy - are you from the Windsor area? If so, who's your OB?

Ooh, I wish I was tall, lol. I'm 5'5 with a short torso and longish legs but look stubby and weird right now because I'm carrying so low... My mom even agreed and she usually lies to me about how I look (in a nice way). xD

I can't get over the border because I don't have proper ID and I can't afford a passport right now. =( First, I'd have to get a driver's license to get my passport too because they said a health card is no longer valid ID. I don't have time or money unfortunately! Or a car... so that's probably the first problem lol.

And thanks Twobecome3!! I totally forgot I had a two piece I put away a long time ago for if I ever went water parks.. and it fits me now!! I never even thought to try it. :D So that saves some money!

I'm in London anyway. I tried Old Navy but they only had a couple things (mostly workout type wear). My SIL gave me a few pairs of sweat pants which are awesomely comfortable for home but I need nice things for when I go out anywhere. I'm not the type who likes to go out in sweats or pajamas. I think there are a couple Old Navy's though so if I can get out to the one across the city, I'll check there! :)

I had the same problem! I just kept going back to Thyme and checking out their clearance section. I ended up getting two pairs of maternity pants for $16 each and a couple of shirts for around $8 each. I also went to a couple of thrift stores and bought some long shirts, and that's basically my stash... For the swimsuit, I had my mom send me a maternity swimsuit that she got for $12 from Target. I was only able to find swimsuits for $80 + up here, grrrr!

Old Navy is decent.

Rickie's is actually fantastic quality (even better than Thyme IMO) and they've lasted me through 3 pregnancies! But I don't think it's common in Ontario sorry (I'm from BC originally).

Most of my stuff is from Value Village,

I am in Ontario, SOME H&M stores sell clothes and Walmart (I guess select locations) do have a VERY small section.( not great selection at all) but I go to the outlet stores for thyme and motherhood! Great deals! I got jeans for 20, you will have to look into them if you have any near you!

Our local Walmart has one rack (yup that's it) for maternity clothes so I grab things from there. I also buy really long shirts from anywhere that sells them. I agree that the maternity stores are super expensive. I bought two pair of pants from motherhood and I'm hoping I can make those work until I give birth.
I haven't checked out old navy, but I'm from northern Ontario so I'm not sure if they would carry anything anyway. .... Can you order online? eBay may be helpful if kijiji is a bust.

I had really good luck at a local consignment store - their website stated that they carry maternity wear. Gently used items from Motherhood and Thyme were $10 each on average. So, try searching for consignment stores in your area. I got a few things at Value Village and Old Navy too.

I live in Ontario and I've had the same problem. Walmart, Zellers and all those places don't seem to carry mat clothes here. I went to Value Village to buys some second hand. I got some great Mat pants (Khakis, Cords, and Jeans) for around $7 each. It's hit or miss depending on when they get new stuff in, but it's certainly worth checking out!
